2011 Gaming and Collecting Goals

Goals:
-Complete Game.Com collection (only need 8 or 9 more games)
-Complete Action Max collection (ONE GAME LEFT.)
-Get more Wonderswan games and explore the system more.
-Finally get a PS3
-Get a 3DS at release (shame I work a poor part time job, this probably won't be right away)
-Collect more must-have games for the systems I already own
-Colecovision AC adapter. NEEDED
-New Virtual Boy / recollect for it
-Attempt to obtain a CDi, Vectrex, Arcadia 2001, Fairchild Channel F

This year I want to focus less on buying games and focus more on obtaining more consoles. Right now, I only own one console, the NES top loader, and games for it.

i actually think this is fucking awesome. i'm so tempted to just sell everything and get ONE console and buy ALL the good games for it, but then i'd be pissed later on down the road, i'm sure.

also, one of my collecting goals is going quite nicely, i've already added like 25 new saturn games to my library

I've had a lot of fun this year with the Games Beaten 2010 thread, and I'm sure we'll see a 2011 thread pop up on or around January 1.

That thread made me think: I am curious what kinds of goals others have for next year in terms of both playing and collecting games.

For example, I know that I want to try to give some of the classic Nintendo franchises and games more play next year, and am planning to go through some Zelda, Mario, and Metroid games that I've never gotten very far in. I also want to rack up a few more RPGs, as I played more in that genre this year than I have in a long time (and thoroughly enjoyed it). I also want to devote more time to PC gaming next year.

As far as collecting, I am leaning towards perhaps building a collection of pinball video games. Not sure yet on that one. I'd also like to round out my shmup collection with a few more titles that I have been meaning to pick up, and to potentially finish picking up the remaining titles I am interested in for the PS1 and PS2. I guess my other big collecting goal is to work on acquiring more launch games/end games for my blog...

So we're half way through 2011...how's everyone doing?

I am actually doing pretty well, overall.

On the Nintendo franchises front, I played a Metroid game to completion and have two more I plan to finish this summer. I also have a Zelda game or two in my sights by year's end. On the RPG front, I have played 4 RPGs through to completion, which is a lot for me (this was something I wasn't so sure I'd be able to stick to). I have done moderately well with doing more PC gaming, but still have some time to meet my goals there. By the end of the summer challenge, I will have 4 or 5 PC games under my belt for the year, which isn't too bad.

Collecting-wise I have done so-so. I've picked up quite a few shmups (especially for the PCE) and pinball games, but not as many launch games/end games.

Sega Nomad didn't come out in PALland.

Anyhow, for my collecting goal for the year, I wouldn't mind grabbing another couple of cheaper retro consoles to make some more progress on the systems I want (stuff I still intend to buy, probably over the space of a few years: Game Gear, Wonderswan Crystal, Commodore 64, Mega CD, 32X, XBox, another goddamn PS2, PSP if it becomes slightly cheaper, maybe a Lynx).

I got me another PS2 and a Game Gear, but I've been holding off on new consoles in general for now.

Aswell as grabbing a couple of those (I generally keep my new console purchases down to about 2 or 3 a year) I intend to buy a couple of good but cheap games for the systems I've bought which I've been neglecting. I only have 3 good dreamcast games (jet set radio, chuchu rocket, space channel 5) and a handful of good games for saturn (sonic jam, nights, worms, theme park, discworld), PS1 (Final Fantasy VII,VIII,IX), PS2 (FFXII, Ico, Sahdow of the Colossus). I have slightly more NES and SNES and NGPC games than that but I wouldnt mind a few new ones either. Maybe some new mega drive and N64 games too since I've basically beaten all of mine.

And as if that wasnt bad enough, its 3DS launch year. Oh god yes, I must have that console.

I got me a 3DS, and I'm loving it. I also picked up a whole bunch of Saturn games, aswell as a couple of N64 and NGPC games, but the other consoles I've still been neglecting . I cant afford to work on all the systems at once though

As for beating games, my mission is just to keep beating stuff to the point where I have under 5 unbeaten games per console, and perhaps further. I'm not too far off that target atm (I have 8 gamecube, 10 virtual console, 6 master system and 8 DS, but the others are 5 or less), but I imagine I'll be getting a bit more come christmas.

I've been working at this, but then I bought some new games and I have basically left me with just as many things to beat to achieve this target. I have 8 wii, 6 VC, 6 DS, 6 Saturn, 6 game gear and 6 Master system, which means I need to beat 8 games to reach this goal, compared to 12 at the start of the year.

Oh, maybe I should beat some metroid prime and final fantasy games? I have 3 metroid prime games and 6 final fantasys sitting unbeaten. That's probably more RPGs than I can bare in 1 year though...

I haven't beaten a single metroid prime game this yea, although metroid prime 2 is in my summer game challenge list. I have beaten FF3 though, and I'm half way through FFIX for my summer challenge.


Overall, I've done most of what I said I'd do. I've only had so much time and money, I can't do it all!

I plan to expand my collection overall, manly snes though since it's my favorite. I also might buy a wii or ds after Christmas so I would get games for those too. I have about 10 games I want to beat next year, if I can't get them in this year.

So far, I got a Ds and expanded my snes collection. However there are still a few more I need to pick up. Out of those "10 games" I've mentioned, I finished a bunch of them and the rest I put on the Summer Challenge. I still haven gotten a Wii but that's gonna be my next console purchase after a PC.

since im somewhat satisfied with my genesis collection, this year i focus on the snes and try to get as many rpgs and old time favorites.

As of right now im in the process of getting chrono trigger and kirby superstar.

Well, I have passed my mark of 200 games that I own, got a ps3 and psp, got games that I wanted, but haven't beat 15 games haha.
