Re: Your choice between 360 and a PS3?
Well at first I wanted a PS3, but 600 dollars? I guess ill get a 360! Then the PS3 dropped in price and hey it had built in wifi, and the 360 didn't. I'm happy with my PS3. Theres a few games i want for 360, but not enough to spend more than 100 bucks for a 360 for. It would mainly be for any 360 exclusive vertical shmups like Raiden IV and some various XBLA games that are exclusive. Another factor is that PS3 has blu ray which is good for games because I heard that games like FFXIII were on multiple discs, while the PS3 its on one nice BR. I'm just kinda lazy when I don't need to do anything.

Don't forget that launched in what, 2005? I don't think anyone could have forseen how popular (and large in size) downloadable content was to become at that point. Not to mention all the additional services that have come, such as video rentals/purchasing. 20GB was likely seen as a) a monstrous amount of space and b) cost-effective.Lone Wanderer wrote:The one thing that really irks me about the 360 though is the hard drive. 20GB? Who thought that was a good idea? I can just barely fit all my stuff on there, and I don't have a whole lot.
We were still joking about people downloading horse armour back then..

Iirc I got mine in 2006. That's a good point, but the elite was out at the time, so they must have had some idea about the size of DLC and saves. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that I would be pressed for space and I didn't have enough money to buy one.irixith wrote:Don't forget that launched in what, 2005? The Elite was not out in 2006. I got my 360 on black Friday 2006, and I can remember choosing which model I got. Only the Core (bare bones) and Premium (20gb) models were available at the time.Lone Wanderer wrote:Iirc I got mine in 2006. I guess I don't recall correctly then.
I got kinda mixed up there. I bought my xbox in '06 and my 360 in '07.

Well assuming the game libraries are exactly the same...
I prefer the XMB over the Dashboard immensely.
I do enjoy playing online games but I'm not heavily into them, so choosing to pay a monthly fee for that would be ridiculous of me.
I also prefer the PS3's controller.
Basically, the PS3 wins in my eyes.

Re: Your choice between 360 and a PS3?
I have a PS3, but I'm kind of disappointed with the selection of games this generation and I think I'd like a 360 better.
However, I'd probably be saying the exact opposite if I had a 360 at the moment...

Re: Your choice between 360 and a PS3?
Maybe I'm in the minority but I really do prefer the 360 over the PS3 for a few reasons:
- When I want to play a multiplayer game, I enjoy Live much more than PSN. It seems to be a more stable service and it seems to me that it is more active on any given multiplatform game than its ps3 counterpart (in my experience). Live is really worth paying for IMO.
- Indie games, Demo's, etc. When i got a PS3 after owning an 360 for a little while I was really disappointed in how little you can actually download or demo. The PSN store seemed REALLY lacking compared to 360's.
- I like the controller much more. It feels much more stable and feels as if it is really tailored to my hands rather than PS3's which feels as if it could break easily and is slightly more awkward to me. After long hours of play, the ps3 controller tends to hurt more for me.
I enjoy my ps3 a lot (especially lately) but when picking out a multi-platform game, I usually will lean towards the 360 release... and will definitely pick up the 360 version if multiplayer is involved.

Re: Your choice between 360 and a PS3?
You need a HDD transfer cable, which is an additional expense.Lone Wanderer wrote: Price mainly. Also, can I transfer all my saves and stuff?
Anyway...
I have both - an Elite 120GB 360, an MGS4 bundle PS3, and a Slim PS3.
I think they both have pros and cons. I don't tend to care much between the two most of the time - I'll buy a game for whichever the port was better on, etc. I do like the Dual Shock 3 a little more than the 360 controller, but it's only a deciding factor for games that use the d-pad (like fighters).
For me personally, however, I'd probably go with the PS3. What I see as the primary advantage of the 360 - Live - is something I don't really care about as I don't play much online with consoles. If I did, it'd likely come down more to where the competition was - and as I understand, that tends to favor Live. It also provides a more consistent experience.
What I do like with regards to the PS3 is the relative lack of proprietary stuff. Despite the loss of Other OS (and other stuff) over the revisions, you still have the basic ability to use an off-the-shelf 2.5" HDD. Controllers connect and charge over standard USB to mini-USB cable , headset uses standard bluetooth, and so on. The HDMI port doesn't need me to use a special adapter if I need to split optical audio out.
XMB is a bit more no-nonsense, and a bit more robust. Still some things I'd change with it, but I like it better than the dashboard.
While not really a gaming function, I do use my PS3 as my Blu-ray and DVD player too, so it gets a lot more use in general.
If I'm not pretending all the games are the same, while it'd be totally subjective, I prefer more of the PS3 exclusives at this point.

Re: Your choice between 360 and a PS3?
PS3 for me for the following reasons:
I like the XMB(XrossMediaBar) interface more than the 360's menu system. It just seems simpler and more straight forward and the themes available are just better implemented than 360 themes because they are either interactive or constantly changing. The Sega Dynamic theme from PSN Plus is an excellent example of one that never remains constant.
I love the visual representation of icons on the PS 3, whether it's the icon you click on to play a game or the icons for saves files. Often you get some kind of animated video and some music to give you an idea of what the game is like, and a big background piece of artwork that looks like a desktop wallpaper. It's those little stylish touches that put the PS 3 over for me. The whole XMB system somehow manages to be both prettier and more practical than its 360 equivalent
I just like the blue ray format. It addresses my biggest issue with optical media. It's tough and hard to damage. It also removes the need to have multiple disc games
PS 3 has better connectivity and usability with a PC. I like being able to use a USB flash drive instead of a memory card. That's something my particular 360 model can't do. I also love how easy it is to take that USB drive and plug it into my computer and transfer game saves to the hard drive or to my portable 500 gigabyte hard drive that is hooked up to it
Free online, not that it matters to a guy who isn't big on online gaming. Still, it's just how I like seeing an online model being done
Trophy system is better than achievement system. I'm not as obsessive over trophies and achievements as I once was, they're kind of annoying in some ways. However, between the two I like trophies. You get a special trophy for getting all the others which is nice, and I like the idea that ever gamer has levels that go up with trophies collected like if you're in a real life rpg. I also like the idea of every trophy being ranked from bronze for the easy stuff to gold for the harder stuff
Controller - I firmly believe that the Playsation dualshock controller is, and has been for a few years, the best overall controller on the market.
It just looks better. I don't know if other models looks different, but mine is sleek looking and has that cool black color
It's quieter
No stupid avatar system
1080p
It's a more powerful system, though few games have really taken advantage of that
Now we said what if all games were hypothetically available on both systems. Does that include digital download games and Sony published titles? I ask because I like the generally more creative, innovative and artistic approach a lot of PSN games have when compared to Xbox Live Arcade titles. I also appreciate the fact that Sony has companies like Team Ico in their pocket
