Your choice between 360 and a PS3?
Your choice between 360 and a PS3?
This is not a debate which is better
am just looking for your choice, what you prefer and why
I know the argument of "if u want to play Halo, GoW get 360. Uncharted , LBP get a ps3"
and I agree
but lets imagine that all games are available on both platforms, which will u choose?
which GUI, online gaming, PSN or Xbox Live reliability , which would u pick?
personally i used to make fun of the ps3 when it came out, but after the slim and Bluray winning, no RROD's, free online i think ps3 might have an edge.
but I have 0 idea when comparing the two online stores.
lets not forget Kinect and PS move too.
please express your opinion
if this has been discussed before, please tell me and close this thread
thanks

Fair warning, if this does become a debate about which is better, it will probably get dumped here: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 15&t=17422

Re: Your choice between 360 and a PS3?
Xbox 360 had a stronger start than the PS3, and until 2008, it was the better system IMO. But starting in 2008, PS3 really started to pick up, and 360 began to falter as it tried too hard to steal customers away from the Wii. So now I would say PS3. The only thing 360 has going for it now is that it has a larger number of exclusive download-only games worth playing than PS3.

So assuming the libraries were the same, I'd probably give the edge to the PS3. Personally I think their interface is a little more usable than the 360's. You have more space visible for your themes, which is nice. The store layout is much easier to navigate, in my opinion. There's more space for the new releases and the categories are a bit better defined than the XBL store. The PS3 lets you use any USB controller, which is fantastic. And I'll give them the nod for the online play because it's free and because the headset isn't as ubiquitous as it is on the 360.

Re: Your choice between 360 and a PS3?
I bought a Wii on launch day. Sometime in 2007 I decided to try another console for some variety, and I chose a 360. Why? At the time, it was 1/2 the price of a PS3, easy choice. Plus I got a bundle on sale that gave me the HDMI cable and a free game. (In 2007 anyway, that was a big deal. :p)
It turns out that I really, really, really don't like it. I've tried. I've tried to get past the awkward controller with the weird analogue stick sensitivity and the joke of a rolling d-pad. I've tried to justify paying for Live, and for metering out my purchases using ridiculous points, especially being that in the US, you get more points for your dollar than you do in Canada. I've tried to love the astonishing amount of first person view games, and the heavy focus on multiplayer. I've tried, I've tried, I've tried.
I just don't like it. I don't like the multiplayer focus, I'm just not that kind of gamer. Everything is social this, social that, a dashboard full of ads -- I can't even choose what panel to start the console on, it starts on the advertising one. Yay. I don't like that the majority of the "extra" services are US exclusive, and that the ones that do come to Canada have extremely limited selection.
I even got a slim 360 around the time Lego Harry Potter came around, because after selling my old 360 the cost was negligible. Still couldn't afford a PS3. Now, a year later, Microsoft still hasn't been able to properly complete the license transfer so that I can play my XBLM arcade games on my new box. So, it sits unused in the corner, and every so often I cast a glance of pure hatred at the stupid thing.
A few months ago, I got a PS3 (by trading in a good chunk of my Wii library). Boy, I wish I'd made a different choice back in 2007. I like the games better (in terms of exclusives, i.e. LBP/Modnation are right up my alley, stuff like Gears and Halo just isn't), the controller better, the lack of intense focus on multiplayer better. I like that the download services uses real money. I like that I don't feel like I'm missing out on the experience to not bother with the online. I even like that trophies are laid out in such a way that you can see at a glance the really hard achievements from the benign, and that there isn't any arbitrary score involved. I also like that my dash isn't flooded with advertisements.
So, in short, my choice would be a PS3. Especially in the past couple of years, where it's really begun to shine.

Re: Your choice between 360 and a PS3?
I have both, but I chose the PS3 first because of the games I knew would eventually be released for the PS3 only (Gran Turismo Series, an eventual Team ICO game, etc). Another factor in my decision was hearing about the failure rates of the 360. Nobody builds the perfect product, but the 360's lack of reliability was unacceptable. Free online services was also a plus.
I eventually bought a Japanese 360 because of the region-locked Japan exclusives. I only have JPN games for my 360 and if a multiplatform game is released, I buy the PS3 version. There are no U.S. 360 exclusives that interest me.
Lastly, the PS3 just seems more refined to me. The 360 feels like a Chrysler and the PS3 feels like a Lexus.

@irixith - thanks I think you have just convinced me which one I need to save my pennies for. I'm def more of a single player game person and I'm def not a fan of playing online. Thanks

Re: Your choice between 360 and a PS3?
Well last generation I bought an xbox over a ps2 for the cheaper price, Star Wars: Republic Commando, and Halo. Naturally, I bought a 360 because I could play my xbox games on it, and the ps3 wasn't out yet. I've been pretty lucky with it, I've had it almost since launch and it hasn't red ringed on me. It's been left on overnight a few times by accident too. My friend's ps3 went down when it was left on overnight. I also really like the controller, except for the shoulder buttons. Given the choice, I would still get a 360 over a ps3. They are a lot more similar these days, with built-in wifi and large HDDs. A lot more reliable too. The one thing that really irks me about the 360 though is the hard drive. 20GB? Who thought that was a good idea? I can just barely fit all my stuff on there, and I don't have a whole lot.

There have been larger HDD's than the 20gb available for the original Xbox 360 for years now. Why not buy one?Lone Wanderer wrote:Well last generation I bought an xbox over a ps2 for the cheaper price, Star Wars: Republic Commando, and Halo. Price mainly. Also, can I transfer all my saves and stuff?BoringSupreez wrote:There have been larger HDD's than the 20gb available for the original Xbox 360 for years now.
