Duke Nukem Forever dismantled by Eurogamer. 3/10, ouch.

Also, I don't know why everyone rips on the driving segments. Admittedly yeah the first time you do that in the casino it kind of sucked, but when you're going to the dam, it felt just like the vehicle segments in Half-Life 2 to me. Which I really enjoyed, so I guess if you didn't like those... you probably won't like the vehicle segments here either.

Well Gearbox owns the franchise now, it seems more possible than not to me. Anyways like I've been telling some of my friends and think I've said around here before already, I imagine "from the ground up" Gearbox could probably develop a really good Duke game. I'd still say this is probably like 80% 3DR development here with Gearbox just throwing their money out so the game could finally be released.

I liked it, so I imagine if Gearbox does another game, it'll be quite a step up from this. Borderlands and every FPS expansion Gearbox did back in the day were pretty damn good, I'm stoked for their Aliens game, etc. I'd honestly love to hear them do a sequel here and since they've actually got a good track record, it probably wouldn't take 12 years to develop.

Seems that more than just people here are saying that the negative reviews are unfair:

Yep. That was good stuff, the Game Informer review of Witcher 2 he brought up was hilarious horse shit.

It's like if some big company gives a game a low rating, everyone else has to follow suit. This game is getting slammed for nothing and as he clearly said, there's far worse games out there right now unfairly getting better reviews and everything.

Ain't that the truth.

Considering DNF's ridiculously troubled history, its a damn fine game.

I'd also like to point out that I'm playing on the 360, and the only graphical flaw I've encountered so far (I'm very near the end of the game) is the texture loading problem, which is infrequent, and never permanent (it always catches up and loads everything) the way some reviews have claimed.

I want a sequel. I really do.

I just beat it.

I loved this game beginning to end. It was a roller coaster of fun and explosions.

And the finale, just epic.

Whatever anyone else says, I'm a happy gamer right now. :D

I'll end up buying it used from EB for around 10$ in probably a few months...there are definitely way better games to buy for retail price out there. Oh, and btw, I'm 25, working on my second degree, have a full-time job AND still have a nice game collection (and which I also play, haha.)

@CFFJR: Did you stick around after the credits? Oh man ...

Totally with you though, with the exception of the Lady Killer/casino stages at the start, overall it was a blast I thought. There were definitely never any texture problems on my side with the PC version though. I actually find it to be pretty fascinating how well the game ran and looked on my PC, when it's not that great at all... like playing Doom 3 maxed impresses me on this thing, but a lot of newer stuff is pretty much unplayable. Basically DNF is like the best looking game I've played on my PC, funny how that worked. 8)

The 360 version sounds like the worst, but you playing through that is a testament that it's still totally playable.

I did watch the after credits scene. It was funny. I hope that actually leads to a sequel.

Glad it ran well on your PC. My laptop couldn't handle it, heh.

As for the 360 version, it is indeed perfectly playable. I can say with confidence that the people calling it broken and unplayable are either lying or didn't actually play it. Simple as that.

On another note, I was watching the special stuff you unlock at the end, and I have to say, watching the trailers from 98 and 01, its surprising how much stuff from those videos actually made it into the game.

I was also surprised to see screenshots from 2002, showing clearly that the ego system has been in place for several years. Its not some random change they made on a whim.

It made me feel good about the game to see that despite the troubled history, a lot of the original concepts still survived.

One more aside, out of curiosity...

I think brunoafh's post was in response to Retrogamer0001's mostly pointless/random post about his age, his current school career, his job, and his game collection.

I also thought it was pretty impressive how a lot of the idea's did make it into the final build here. Although I will say, the city stages and outside casino area's looked pretty damn awesome, a shame we didn't get that in the final release here. The outside city was pretty much ... gray, haha. Well I said it before, but man it would have been so epic if these early builds were playable unlockables or something, but I imagine the code might have been sadly lost, too dated or broken, or something. The extras were great though, lots of content there so I'm not really complaining.

What'd you think of the crazy platforming getting to the Duke Burger tower? I haven't felt such intensity like that in FPS platforming since the part in Half-Life 2 when you're under the train bridge with the ocean a mile below you. Damn it was scary and awesome, haha.
