Duke Nukem Forever dismantled by Eurogamer. 3/10, ouch.

Let's be honest; did anyone expect anything more than a rushed product or had their hopes up for this game? I never played any of the older Duke games, but I've enjoyed reading about how the company behind the original series went bankrupt after a series of horrible decisions. Gearbox picked up the torch to make the myth of DNF into a reality, although from the sound of it, a fruitless endeavor, as most of the series' fans are well into their 20s or older - probably done with gaming altogether.

Now, I like Gearbox, I had a lot of fun with Borderlands and am eagerly looking forward to the sequel. This game, however, seems to only have worth as a collector's item.

Anyone going to pick this game up, anyway?

EDIT:

Some more lackluster reviews here for the 360 version.

I will, without question.

I've been a Duke fan since he was starring in sidescrollers, and I will support this game.

I think that in this one instance 'rushed' is probably the adjective you should choose.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Seriously - you make this comment on a retro game board?

Anyway, I dont actually have a platform that I could play it on, but if I did then I would buy it. I've read a couple of reviews and they seem to be reasonably positive so far, other than this guy obviously. I hope it sells well, Gearbox deserve to be rewarded for making game history, even if it isnt a AAA title

I figured someone would call me on that, but retro gamers aren't the majority and most people grow out of gaming when things like college and jobs take precedence. This isn't anything new; you can't really argue that the original target audience of DNF hasn't been diminished over the past decade.

Now, it is one man's opinion, but he articulates good points and has actually played the previous entries in the series. Among the noteworthy points are the lack of any new weapons, spotty physics, linearity with drab corridors, hit and run gameplay without a cover system, etc.

Oh hey, I just thought to ask...

What's the point of this thread, anyway?

"Rah rah, DNF sucks."
"No man, you just don't UNDERSTAND, you weren't THERE."
