I have 3 machines that do dvd and one that does bluray plugged into my main tv already, plus I have another system that play dvds in my bedroom, and two laptops. I really have no use of anything else that plays dvds. As it is I only really use my PS3 for movies because it's the best of the bunch. I know not everyone that Nintendo is targeting has that much tech laying around, but I don't think I've seen anyone without a dvd player in years.
Cause some of us like the idea of having only one machine below our TV. I gave away my DVD player once I got a PS3. And since I'll probably be moving around plenty in a few years, and I'll probably give my PS3 to my dad to use as a Blue Ray player, I'd love my next console to be able to play DVDs and Blue Rays.
And the thing is, that if Nintendo doesn't bother to support DVD and Blue Ray, you know that they are so stingy that they'll also not have proper online support, a proper browser, and of course a proper shop.... Nintendo would really thrive as a 3rd party developer, with the right to make their own peripherals. But I think they are very out of touch with the reality of the modern tech world right now. People love having all in one devices, and people love the internet. Both of those are things Nintendo rejects....
I wish the best for them, cause I love their games, but honestly, I don't get why the 3DS does LESS than an iphone. I don't care for the phone part of course, but why can't it have a proper app store, awesome internet browser, awesome mp3 player, movie player, and ect. ect.
