That's why I said otherwise altered. It didn't use the enhanced ability of the Wii to help the anti-aliasing or anything like that.
The Wii basically is a Gamecube, hardware wise. It's only slightly more powerful. It's not surprising that it doesn't enhance Gamecube games graphically.

However, doesn't the Wii upscale virtual console games from 240p to 480p? I haven't actually played any but I remember hearing that they did.

With the Wii U not backwards compatible with Gamecube disks, this leaves us wondering if the games will be offered as downloads though the an online store similar to how N64 and SNES games are available on WiiWare now.
Of course, now I understand. Ninty wants us to pay AGAIN to play those GC games. Much better than adding CG BC...

Not that it matters really. I'm still playing everything on the original consoles anyway...

Still, it would be nice to for once see a console play all its predecessors. Imagine the Wii U being compatible with NES, SNES, N64, GC and Wii games, regionfree!... Now that would sell Wii U's!...

Come to think of it. They could do all that with simple hardware add-ons too...

If only...

Not even the greatest programmers on earth can get 1080p out of the PS3 unless it's something relatively simplistic graphics wise (IE Wipeout). The Wii U has 1GB of video ram AND 512MB of system ram. More than enough for 1080p. This system will look amazing graphics wise, it's got a massive chunk of ram to throw at the problem.

This is one of the reasons why PS3 games on the whole look worse than 360 games because of the 360's 32MB EDRAM, an entire frame buffer at 720p will fit in there with room to spare for a little AA. The PS3 simply does not have that luxury. When you consider you have an entire 1GB RAM dedicated to video on the Wii-U you can understand that we're looking at at least 2 to 3 times better graphics than the current gen consoles. Obviously this is all down to the developer but when you consider that Super Mario Galaxy 2 looks EASILY like a 360 or PS3 title on severely underpowered hardware, I'm sure Nintendo will make everybody else look like rank amateurs.

No offense, but it sounds like you've never played a PS3 game. It also sounds very biased as well.

Seriously? Have you played Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Killzone 3, Socom 4, etc?
I all the major consoles, but there is no denying when it comes to graphics the PS3 has the edge in a major way.

Except that it looks terrible on an HD display. The jaggies cut through your retinas! Not that graphics are everything of course. I actually enjoy the game, but I constantly ask myself how it would look in HD.

Wipeout looks amazing imo. I think you are confusing simplistic with smooth, easy on the eyes. It's anything but simplistic!

Anyway, I'd rather have smooth, anti-aliased graphics in 720p, with all the shaders and high res textures you'd expect in a next gen title than just 1080p any day.

To give you an example of what I mean. Take God of War Collection in 1080p and God of War III in 720p. GOWIII looks much more impressive than GOW Collection.

WipeoutHD is a rather simplistic game visually. I think your confusing technical graphics with aesthetics. The geometry, textures and lighting are all pretty simple.

Anyways, I really wish all the consoles would do more with backwards compatibility. If the PS3 had added antialliasing like epsxe does it would've looked amazing. Same with the WiiU, it's a huge missed opportunity imo.

I don't feel the graphics are simplistic. They are futuristic and clean looking, but the textures are detailed and the framerate is locked at 60fps.

It's one of the few games that really floors people when they see it on a 55" HDTV.
Also, it's in 3D for those who support it :P
So 1080p HD, 60fps, 3D.. Not bad for a game that came out over 3 years ago.

I totally agree with backwards compatibility, but I can understand why game companies hate it. They don't make a penny off of used game sales and would much rather sell you a DLC version of it. Including GC compatibility on the Wii-U would make it harder for Nintendo to sell GC VC (which I'm sure we will see announced soon enough).

I don't like it either, but that's the way it is. Just don't sell your old consoles and it won't matter. :)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Niode knows more about the PS3 than Sony even does.. And that's no exaggeration..
