You actually bring up an interesting point, as I'm pretty sure I remember some member here that works retail or something once mentioned how 3DS's weren't flying off the shelves because many average uniformed consumers thought they were just another revision of the regular DS, because of the names. Now, the "Wii U" isn't much different at all from the "Wii", nor does it even physically look that different. So I wonder if we'll see a potential problem here as well, I mean really if you saw the name randomly and knew nothing about it I'm sure many people would just assume it's some kind of add on for the Wii, not an entirely new console. Could be a mistake Nintendo doesn't see coming.Rocketman wrote:I reckon the Wii U is a gamble... Maybe it will sell units on the "Wii" name alone, but I wouldn't bet my money on it.

As funny as that scenario would be to see play out, I somehow doubt the marketing machine at Nintendo is going to sit by and allow it to happen that way. I'm sure come launch day every toy and electronics retailer in the country will be swamped with all sorts of advertising marquees to help know-nothing sales reps explain to grandma and grandpa exactly what the "Wii U" is.You actually bring up an interesting point, as I'm pretty sure I remember some member here that works retail or something once mentioned how 3DS's weren't flying off the shelves because many average uniformed consumers thought they were just another revision of the regular DS, because of the names. Nope. Quite a few of us are very happy with the Wii.Rocketman wrote:Don't we all?pepharytheworm wrote:I think he feels burnt on his expectations for the Wii.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I'm happy with the Wii, but it didn't live up to my expectations. (E3 06 Mega Hype)Flake wrote:Nope. Quite a few of us are very happy with the Wii.Rocketman wrote:Don't we all?pepharytheworm wrote:I think he feels burnt on his expectations for the Wii.
It's a good thing the system has a kickin' library of games. (Dokey Kong Country Returns, Mario Galaxy 1&2, Zelda TP, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid Other M, Kirby: Epic Yarn, Epic Mickey, Mad World. No More Heroes, Red Steel 2, etc, etc. I really could keep going)
My other post probably came off a little trollish, but it wasn't intended to be.

Re: Nintendo: Project Cafe - Wii U
It's not clear to me but is the new controller wireless or is it tethered? Maybe no one really knows. It seems that at E3, it was tethered but I don't know if that was for security reasons or not.
Personally, I expect my game controllers to be wireless. The days of untangling 4 gamecube controllers are over for me.

Per the video during the conference it was wireless. They were tethered at E3 so no one would run off with it.
Re: Nintendo: Project Cafe - Wii U
Wii U currently only supports one WiiiPad.
Uh, wtf?
Never mentioned during the conference supposedly, hilarious. So what, we'll still be using Wiimotes or classic controllers for all the multiplayer gaming?...

I don't know about during the conference, but this was actually mentioned by Flake I think a few pages back.Xeogred wrote:Wii U currently only supports one WiiiPad.

It's been mentioned a number of times that I've seen. I think there was one interview where they mentioned "looking into" using two.Ack wrote:I don't know about during the conference, but this was actually mentioned by Flake I think a few pages back.Xeogred wrote:Wii U currently only supports one WiiiPad.

There are some practical limitations to it, but I'd think that the number of those controllers it might be able to support would be limited by graphics. IE, expecting everyone to be playing Call of Duty or something on their own little screen might be a bit much - but giving a 2D inventory or play-calling interface probably wouldn't be too taxing.
