Wow, with these ideas it seems like Nintendo has invented a detachable HUD that I can waggle around. Hooray.

You mean you don't see the genius in that? It's... revolutionary. This is gaming on a new level dude.

it's like a super VMU man

To me it seems like applying the DS concept to home consoles. I don't have any complaints with that idea, and it sounds at LOT more interesting and useful than the waggle controls the wii brought to the table.

(Super short comment ftw)
I saw a rather well thought out theory somewhere not long ago that all of Sony's success with games has been more to do with everyone else screwing up more than them doing anything especially well.

Whether it turns out to be good or not I bet there's some upset folks in the R&D departments at Sony and Microsoft because I'm certain they both have tablet controller concepts in the works and now they can't use them without looking like copycats, again.

This controller has the potential to completely revolutionize the market. But as with anything, if they screw it up, they'll get hurt badly.

Some user on kotaku photoshopped this mock-up. Someone needs to make this real.

I have to admit, that looks like a great idea... :D

This, and the Silent Scope series...

I just wish they would've made the controller smaller.

Maybe a Wii U micro edition controller would be a viable option. Just sayin'...

You guys are so jaded (dsheinem, brunoafh). You're dismissing this new tech before you've even put any thought into what could be done with it. New hardware breeds innovation if it has enough new options and developers are creative enough to exploit it. I'm not completely sold on the Wii U yet, but I can already imagine several interesting uses for it. The device has real promise. Time will tell if it's a significant innovation or not; internet snark will not.

just want to throw this in here..
At last night's Q&A session for Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto said he gave the development team for Skyward Sword a warning before development started.

According to Miyamoto, he told the team the game would be the best game ever made for the series, or there would be no more Zelda games.

He added that he told the Star Fox 3DS developers the same thing.

It isn't known if he was joking when he said it or not, but it's doubtful he was serious about canning two of the company's most successful franchises.

I am not dismissing it at all, but all those screens are basically using the Wii U to replace an on screen map or HUD, which seems much more cumbersome than just having an on screen map or HUD. I want to see some innovative and interesting things done with the Wii U, and so far I haven't seen anything that isn't smoother when done on screen or more interesting with a multitouch pad.

Well, a Fatal Frame and a Silent Scope game would be a good start.

Don't you think?...

Anyways, like I said before. I think it's going to be a good console for a few games.

It's just not going to be my 'main' console of interest due to the overall too gimmicky aspect...

And like I said, a smaller controller with a smaller screen would be much more interesting for most games I think. Like someone mentioned, the idea of an enhanced Dreamcast VMU. Just with a smaller screen than they're having now. More the size of a psp or DSi XL screen...
