It would have been nice if the NA version wasn't either.

I'm a pretty patient guy overall, but Chrono Trigger on ps1 is the only game I've played where I can't handle the loading time. Its just painful.

When do they creep in? While time travelling? Moving to the world map? How frequent are they?

it's most noticeable when transitioning into battle honestly. It's not game-killing (for me) but I'm SUPER patient about shit like that. I will say it's very very annoying... and I'm SUPER patient about shit like that. :|

What Noise said. Every. Single. Battle.

You spend more time loading than you do playing. (I'm only exaggerating a little bit)

I seriously can't handle it.

Noise, I commend you for being able to put up with it. You're a tougher man than I.

LOL. I've always sort of been like that. I often find games that have shit in them that I should hate, but somehow I find their shortcomings charming in a weird way. I don't let things like that bother me I guess. (I play these games so YOU don't have to haha)

 Good man!

I'm usually the same way, particularly about franchises I love (Sonic comes to mind) but sometimes I find one thing that bothers me enough to push me away. This is one of those times I'm afraid.

each had been previously released as individual Japanese PlayStation ports in 1997 (Final Fantasy IV) and 1999 (Chrono Trigger)
just to get the US fans to buy both when we only wanted 1.

I also recall lit being because there were basically palette swaps of some enemies and the games were developed by the same teams (minus Akira Toriyama on the FF side). I'm not even a FF fan (but I love CT dearly) and even I knew this, shame shame you fanboys.

At least the PSX port of IV was supposedly the Hard Type, which was the first version I played and wasn't that hard outside of the final dungeon. I guess the original IV would be a cake walk then?

Of all the PSX ports between IV-VI and Chrono Trigger though, yeah Trigger's loading issue was the worst among them all.

brunoafh wrote:Final Fantasy Chronicles is actually a NA-exclusive release. The NTSC-J equivalent would be Final Fantasy Collection, which consists of FF IV, V and VI. Being that Final Fantasy Anthology (NA only as well) collected V and VI, that left IV without anything to pair with. Chrono Trigger had it's own PS1 release in Japan, so I guess they just decided to bundle IV and Chrono Trigger together for a NA release. Supposedly the Japanese PS1 release of Chrono Trigger isn't plagued by the loading issues.
Final Fantasy Anthology is not a NA exclusive, it was released in PAL zones as well, however it had IV and V in it rather than V and VI, VI had its own release in PAL zones on the PS1. Chrono Trigger was a no show again (It wasn't released on the SNES either in PAL Zones).

EDIT: Also I imagine it was bundled with it since FF was the biggest name then (really still is) everyone was trying to grab any game they could with its name on it, since many people might have missed out on CT they packaged it with it to get people playing the game through the FF name.

Well, lets look at the package deal here. Square was working on PS1 revamps of nintendo games that were epic and awesome. I suppose that they realized that Trigger was just as good a game as any of the Final Fantasy games were.
Also I suppose they just wanted a way, any way, to get a pure revamp of nintendo awesomeness out there, and figured that lumping it in with the FFIV disc in chronicles was the way to do it.
In the end though it just adds to the pile of things Square did that nobody understood. Dont try to comprehend it, there is just no point and all we can take from it is the end result, a PS1 remake of a beautiful thing.
Why did Kevin Flynn blare Journey so loud in his arcade? Was he trying to hear it from the grid?
