I will pick it up on the DS, I have been meaning to pick up a DQ game ever since I played Dragon Warrior Monsters back in 98 on the GBC.

I don't play too many RPG's(Despite that being my the most frequent genre of my DS games, somehow...), but Golden Sun was amazing, great for someone who isn't quite a fan, if you get past the opening story.

I don't know about Dark Dawn, but the GBA titles were magnificent. Mario and Luigi and Pokemon are great too of course. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon for an introduction to rogue-likes. Best part, as far as I recall, I plowed through all of these games with no grinding whatsoever.

EDIT: Well, when it comes to the Pokemon titles, I did fight pretty much all the trainers on the routes, but I didn't bother much with the wild ones, beat them when they came for me, but didn't walk circles in the grass and all.

I tend to be pretty under-leveled compared to what's suggested(by walk-throughs), but I end up beating them through luck and strategy.
