Well I liked games since my next door neighbor had an Amstrad CPC but didn't really get into them until Street Fighter 2 this one game turned me obsessed compared to just an average player that would play now and then.
I liked the game so much that I learned all the special moves for all the characters and spent hours trying them.
At first it was at the Arcades I went every Saturday and then news came that the Snes had the game on it and I managed to get the game for around 20 quid unboxed and then I just played it every spare moment.
Now that was the game that mattered the most but there were others I played that contributed and are important but I don't think I would have cared as much for video games if it wasn't for this one game.
Notably I can remember Super Mario World, Zelda , Super Metroid , Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Final Fantasy 7 I would say these are games that I didn't just complete and put away I played and completed them multiple times just because I enjoyed the gameplay experience that much.
What Got You Interested and Obsessed?
Re: What Got You Interested and Obsessed?
I started on the Odyssey, then moved to the Atari 2600 before getting the NES with PowerPad and Spy Hunter for Christmas. I became an instant Nintendo fanboy, I even camped outside Wal-Mart for the Virtual Boy launch. After the N64 though, I kinda fell out of gaming and the only other systems I played were the Genesis, PS2, and XBox, and even then only very rarely. My goal now is to go back and discover all the great games I missed out on, system by system. I'm starting with the Dreamcast and so far haven't regretted a moment of it. I've also started a collection of Nintendo Power magazines and guides. I remember the thrill I got every month when that thing came in the mail and it will always have a place in my heart.
I've realized the best memories of my childhood were the weekends my mom and dad would spend playing games all night with me. My mom was addicted to games like River Raid and Megamania on the Atari, and Super Mario Bros, Dr. Mario, and Bubsy for the NES/SNES. My dad was an rpg nut, and our 24 hour marathons of Zelda: LttP and FF II and III were interrupted only by midnight taco runs and Dr. Pepper refills at 7-11. These are the kinds of good times I want my kids to experience.

I started on the Colecovision with Donkey Kong, Frogger, and Zaxxon. I'm pretty sure I played some arcade cabs before that, but I I'm not sure of which ones. I know the first games I owned were Donkey Kong, Frogger, and Zaxxon though.o.pwuaioc wrote:What game/games a) got you into gaming?
I was probably obsessed from the beginning, but there are several games that I really played the hell out of over my life.o.pwuaioc wrote:What game/games b) (if any) got you obsessed (or extremely passionate about) gaming?
Venture on the Colecovision was one of the earliest.
By the time I had a Nintendo Entertainment System it was Super Mario Bros., Ninja Gaiden 1&2, Battletoads, Metroid, Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode, Gumshoe, The Legend of Zelda, Section Z and Journey to Silius.
I was deep into fighting games in the 90s.. My main game was Street Fighter II (and its variations), which I have played probably more than any other game in my life. I also played a lot of Mortal Kombat II and Samurai Showdown 1 & 2.
The 90s was also a time for Doom. My friends and I had a regular routine that involved staying up late eating pizza and coffee nips, drinking coke, and taking our turn at the controls of Doom. Alone in the Dark was a nother big one for me, and King's Quest VI.
In the SNES days, I was obsessed with the same fighting games I played in the arcade, but also Super Metroid, Castlevania IV, Contra III, Cybernator, Super Punch Out, Final Fantasy II, and UN Squadron.
With the N64 it was Wave Race 64 more than anything. I still love the water physics in that game. I was also rather obsessed with Mario 64, Star Fox 64, and GoldenEye.
More recently I would say my main obsessions have been Minecraft, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Street Fighter IV, Zeno Clash, and Portal.

Re: What Got You Interested and Obsessed?
I had played several games before these but the two games that made me obsessed are the Legend of Zelda and Metroid. For my birthday in 1988 I received both Zelda and Metroid - which was the only time that happened, money was really tight when I was growing up. I remember borrowing Zelda from one of my oldest brothers friends in 87 and my two older brothers and I would huddle around the 9 inch tv drawing maps and jotting notes on how to play the game. I wish I still had those maps. The last time I played through Zelda was about three years ago and I was on vacation with my extended family (right after two of my nieces had been born). Again we all huddled around a tv playing the my Zelda cart from back then.
Its funny, the games are fantasy and scifi, and sparked my life long interest in both of those genres with quite a fervor.

1.) Started with 2600 games, Adventure, Indiana Jones, Combat, Pac-man.
2.) Got obsessed around the time Betrayl at Krondor for the PC came out.

a) Super Mario Bros.(probably a generic entry, but it is what it is)
b).....none. I was never the type to get overly fanatical about anything.

When I said "obsessed", I meant along the lines of "a gamer" rather than someone with passing or casual interest in games.MidnightRider wrote:b).....none. I was never the type to get overly fanatical about anything.

Re: What Got You Interested and Obsessed?
Don't get me wrong, I was really into playing games, so on that account a and b matched i guess, just not into the details of it, which is what "obsessed" sounds like to me.
