Then you're not out anything. Go team!

He is out something, the possibility of the game not being released because he is one more person who didn't download it, not because he didn't want the game but because he didn't like their method of releasing the game.

I agree with the $2 dollar coupon off the game when it comes out, and if it doesn't get released then maybe $2 off any Capcom game.

Capcom is ridiculous. They don't need to pull these shenanigans at all - they have and do finance much less hopeful projects all the time.

If they're so worried, start a Kickstarter page, goddammit. People will pledge their stupid money and if it's enough, you do the game.

Only instead of the traditional pre-order where you can back out at any time in this one I would give Capcom my $5-10 and I would be obligated to buy the game (or not, and they keep my money) when it comes out. If the game gets cancelled I get my money back. I realize this is logistically infeasable, so another option would be that purchasing the demo for $2 means I get a coupon for $2 off the full game. It's not nearly as good, as now I'm back in the position of potentially being out money when they decide they just hate MML.

Something like Kick Starter for the games industry, maybe?

This is a concept that has been kicked around by Valve, actually. Didn't seem like a half-bad idea, especially for risky ideas/properties that have a very devoted fanbase.

I know I'd donate a good chunk of change to get a Darkstalkers 4 - even more if I were guaranteed some sort of limited edition that only donators were eligible to receive.

I honestly don't understand why you guys think that it's such a big rip-off for them to charge 2$ for a gameplay experience that will be of higher quality from 80% of the apps on iphone which charge the same amount. Even if the game gets canceled, I don't mind paying 2$ for a "mini" game.

I think this is simple. If you think the demo is worth 2$, pay it and enjoy the demo, if not, simply don't unless you want to "support" Capcom by giving them free money, something not very capitalistic.

It also depends a lot of the company you are "supporting". I may support Valve, I don't think I will do the same with Capcom and I would rather kill myself that give some "support" dollars to Activision.

Anyways, this is a bad move on Capcom's part. They can't integrate this into their bussiness model and they will find themselves cancellating projects based on these very poor tests-

It's not about the actual monetary amount. As you pointed out, $2 is nothing and many iOS games run for that much. The issue I have is the reason why they're charging money for a demo, which has almost always be free (I'm looking at you GT Prologue).

Ok, I accept by your perspective that you don't like this. But honestly it's been done already and has been hugely successful (GT Prologue, the fact that XBL Gold members and PSN plus members get early demo access). And to be honest, for years I thought why don't they sell the E3 demo's for 1-2$ so people like us who don't have the money to visit E3, could try out all these games (and at the same time help the game's development).

You still keep the game's demo, if it gets canceled. But I DO believe some form of DLC as a gift for people who supported the game's development is important. For example I got some exclusive clothes, for taking part in the LBP2 beta (and mind you I wasn't economically supporting those guys by playing the beta (all the DLC I bought from them did help though :P)

I support episodic content. And I support selling mini games or shorter games (I think it was Sirlin that wrote he never played a game that was too short - maybe one that was too expensive, but not one that was too short. I'm not sure I agree but I see the point).

I don't support selling a demo and it is dubious to have your customers pay to beta test as well.

So if they would sell the "demo" but it was like the first chapter or part of the game (for example) and if you already had purchased the demo you got a discount or could just buy the other episodes, that would be ok with me.

As it is, it seems a bit dubious, although if they do it in such a way that it is self-contained and has decent quality, then once again I support it despite them naming it a "demo" (I'm thinking of something like Christmas Nights which can stand on itself as a good "game" although it is not "complete", if that makes sense).

Ahh, the shareware model. Also not a bad idea.
