WTF!? Keanu Reeves as Kaneda in Akira!?

I guess you guys are behind the times. Japan loves American actors: Brad pitt, johnny depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Keanu reeves, and more. Point is The Matrix was kinda based off Ghost in the shell anime movie. I truly loved the first Matrix movie, but the 2nd and 3 rd not so great and it got weirder. Keanu Reeves is the right person to make this movie come alive. I don't even want Kayne West to make anymore Homage because is an he odd person to make a quick buck. Kayne West ruined a daft punk song and akira music video for me. I so want to see him in Cowboy Bebop already. This Akira movie has been in talks for years. I said Keanu Reeves would play in the live action movie of Akira about 4 or 5 years ago to a few class friends. Gantz was pretty fun movie to watch in theaters, english dialogue made it slightly funny. Gantz was close to a Matrix movie. I would like to see him in Bill and ted 3 for good laughs.

That's was a bit mean. Here's my two cents. You have some interesting things to say in that post benderx, but you need to learn how to organize your thoughts better. It's just seems like a wall of text with a bunch of random thoughts thrown together like some stream of consciousness

I personally do think Akira is overrated, personally the movie is not going to make it any better.

If you saw it in theatres in 1988 Japan (not that I did) you probably would have shit yourself though.

It blew my mind when I saw it on a VCR in the early 90s. It was my first anime experience. I had picked it up on a whim from Blockbuster video. I had never seen a cartoon so violent before. That opening motorcycle scene was so unlike anything I had ever seen before in animation. And I was totally shocked when you see that one guy that gets ripped apart by bullets. I still watch the opening 30 minutes every once and awhile because it was so good. Akira has long been the standard by which I measure other animes. Very few have as good of an artstyle.

Also, the sountrack is phenomenal. It's one of my favorite movie soundtracks ever.


Ack, I may have to check out the manga. I've heard it was better before and I read a little bit of it in a comic shop once. For me, the movie is great for the first 20-30 minutes and the last 10-20 minutes, but it totally drags in the middle. I love Akira, but I almost always doze off in the middle.
