Anyway when it comes to Akira the anime is terrible compared to the original manga.
Not saying the movie is bad just that the manga is soo much better you get a greater understanding of just wtf the blue kids are. And also Akira is still very much alive and wakes up to mess shit up like destroying Tokyo AGAIN only to become the ruler of the wasteland that is left.

On a more seruous note fuck those fuckers for fucking with Akira by making a u.s live action movie.

Akira's weakest point was always it's story. It was all about the cool art and animation.

Maybe for the film, but reading the manga is a very different experience with a much more coherent story. I suggest you check it out, Dark Horse released translated versions in the US about a decade ago. It's worth reading.

Just the title for this topic alone makes me sad (Not to mention seethe slightly from nerd rage)

I have nothing against Keanu Reeves (didn't I hear rummers a while ago that he wanted/was planning/was going to play Spike in a live action version of Cowboy Beebop?), but the man does seem intent, for the vast majority of his films, to play the same vacant, monotone role and I can't see where that'll fit into Akira.

And to repeat another point that was already mentioned: He's just too old! This is just a real pet peeve of mine. If you're going to adapt something, you need to stick as closely to the original as possible. Not just so you can placate the nerds and their massive rage, but because 9 out of 10 times when you do change an element, it's for the worse and it skews the story. I can't help but feel that changing the cast to all adults (If they try to write him off as a teenager, Ima be pissed) is going to change several elements of the story. Hell, one of the main themes of the story is youth alienation. How is Keanu going to pull that off? Use a lot of slang?

On a side note, I keep picturing Keanu yelling, "TETSUOOOOO!" at the top of his lungs, and not a pretty mental picture does it make

I've definitely been meaning to get to it myself sometime, wasn't a huge fan of the movie either, but it's certainly not bad and I appreciate it a lot artistically, because the art/animation in it was and still is mindblowing.

This adaptation though? I can't wait to not see it.
