Well, lemme put it this way - everyone I know in real life that loves Darkstalkers also loves Jojo. Everyone who loves Jojo also loves Darkstalkers. The only reason they may love one and not the other is because they haven't been introduced to them both yet.

Now, it's not like Jojo is a spiritual sequel or anything - it is different, but the fast-paced action, chain combos, character-specific gameplay elements, incredible and unique designs, they're all there.

It is worth noting that not all the people I know who like Darkstalkers & Jojo also like BlazBlue. I know more than a few who consider BlazBlue trash, yet love Darkstalkers & Jojo. Some of these guys do enjoy Guilty Gear, though. I don't know why, exactly.

interesting.

JoJo seems up my alley. Kind of weird and macabre. Plus Capcom, so probably a gameplay style I'm used to.

For the record, I'm still on the fence with Guilty Gear.

People that call BlazBlue trash do so for 3 simple reasons:

a) They're pissed that Guilty Gear got dropped (and of Guilty Gear 2's existence)

b) They're pissed that BlazBlue simplified things (everything)

c) They're pissed that BlazBlue is more about anime than rock n roll (see intro sequences)

I'm not pleased with any of those changes, but try to see past them for the excellent fighter that BlazBlue is (even though it's no Guilty Gear).

I liked Guilty Gear when I played it, yet it wasn't really able to hold my attention.

I haven't played it in years and I don't really miss it.

I'm not saying its bad mind you, not in the least.

I just... I dunno.

You mentioned playing several Soul Caliburs and didn't specify if that MK game was 2D or 3D. I'm just wondering if that type of fighter is entirely out with you, or if you'd be willing to give them a chance (including older ones, as you might enjoy the Power Stone games).
I don't remember which Mortal Kombat game it was but I do remember it was on the PS2 and was 3D. Also I had played several Tekken games which were 3D. I'm not completely opposed to 3D fighting games but I've yet to play one I remotely enjoyed. I'm open to the possibility I guess.
Hmm...you see, you've played a lot of the major titles and haven't enjoyed them, so I don't know if I'm really comfortable recommending you a "traditional" fighting game. Have you tried titles like Power Stone, Bushido Blade, or the Smash series? Unfortunately only the latest title in the Smash series has the multiplayer options you're looking for, but if you haven't cared for many of the big names...well, I'd say branch out.

Also, if you enjoyed BlazBlue/Guilty Gear, why not look at some of the other fighters put out by the same company? Battle Fantasia is quite cheap these days, though I doubt there's much of a community. And if you can get your hands on them, there's Fist of the North Star and Sengoku Basara X, though they're both imports and again not going to have the multiplayer you're interested in.

I've heard of Power Stone but know next to nothing about it. I've never heard of Bushido Blade or the Smash series. Unless you're talking about the Smash Bros. games that Nintendo made. In which case yes I've played them and I did not like them.

Yes, that's what I meant. It's good to know. Honestly though, I just don't think this genre's for you. No shame in it, I just don't see it being up your alley.

So I said I was gonna buy Blazblue: Continuum Shift. Well, guess what came in the mail like literally 10 minutes ago.

MORTAL KOMBAT!

No, just joking. It was Blazblue.
Thanks for all the advice you guys provided. :) It was really cool of you all. I'm gonna go break this thing in real soon.
