Re: Looking for a good 2D fighter...
I'm not saying Guilty Gear is bad, I love it, but for this person and what he's looking for(which you seem to like ignoring just to plug your opinions), it's a waste of money. ALL of Guilty Gear's systems are nearly identical to those in BlazBlue, but BlazBlue updated and rebalanced them. It's an incredibly similar game, which makes sense considering that BlazBlue is the spiritual successor to GG anyways. Secondly, there's no online community. Why would a person looking to play online buy games with no online play? That's just dumb.

I... I... can someone else handle this?SplashChick wrote:ALL of Guilty Gear's systems are nearly identical to those in BlazBlue, but BlazBlue updated and rebalanced them.
Edit:
Also just want to say this isn't true at all and Ishiwatari and Mori have confirmed there will be more Guilty Gear numerous times. The Guilty Gear series is made by the same team as BlazBlue, they just lost the rights to it when they moved to a new publisher.

I suggested Guilty Gear as an option to have fun regardless of online play. The best times I have playing fighting games are still drinking cold beer and talking shit with the guys, never gets old.
Apples and Oranges splash, Blazblue is similar but still very different in my eyes. I'm done bantering back and forth, let the man make the decision for himself.

Quick question for Mr. Eco. Since you've had a rough time with 2D fighters, would you consider 3D ones? You mentioned playing several Soul Caliburs and didn't specify if that MK game was 2D or 3D. I'm just wondering if that type of fighter is entirely out with you, or if you'd be willing to give them a chance (including older ones, as you might enjoy the Power Stone games).
Re: Looking for a good 2D fighter...
If you like BlazBlue, then you should check out the series that were the obvious inspirations for Arc System Works' fighters, Darkstalkers and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Though, honestly, I prefer both of those fighters leaps and bounds more than BlazBlue - rarely a day goes by that I don't play one of them.
Also, as far as KOF goes, I liked KOFXII. Not the best, but still far better than KOF'01 and '02, which I regard as the series low points. If you are going to play '02, play '02: Ulimate Match, which corrected everything that was wrong with KOF'02 and turned out to be likely my favorite KOF entry. I would classify the high points of the main KOF series (not including ReBouts/Ultimate Matches/etc.) as being KOF'98 and KOFXI.
Most of what I recommended doesn't have online play (excluding GGPO, or living in Japan in the case of KOFXI), but who cares? Why play with a bunch of foul-mouthed guttersnipes when you can play with real people? If you have X360, I've heard that the netcode for Neo Geo Battle Coliseum is really good - it plays enough like KOFXI that I'd recommend it, even if it isn't quite as good.
