I'll be hacking and slashing hundreds of enemies in Sengoku Musou Chronicle, and just from pushing buttons, the 3DS will move ever so slightly and that will break the 3D effect for a second. Of course, if you are using motion controls the 3D effect doesn't work at all but even for button based games, it is far too easy to break the 3D.

I'm not surprised that some people just leave the 3D slider off at all times. 3D was a cool idea but it doesn't really work well enough.

I wanna add that I still have only played 2 games (Sengoku Musou and Ridge Racer). The 3D effect looks far more impressive with Ridge Racer, compared to Sengoku Musou, but it breaks even easier. I would set the 3D slider just high enough for the 3D effect to be on and it would still break on me constantly. It's really a shame. I want it to work because it's so cool but it makes it harder to play the game with the 3D effect breaking all the time.

I did order Pilotwings Resort but it won't ship to me until One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP comes out (I ordered them together as one package). Supposedly Pilotwings uses the 3D the best, so I am looking forward to trying it out.

At first, I was blown away by the 3D effect but the more I use the 3DS, the more annoyed I am by it. The word "gimmick" seems appropriate here. >_>

this was definitely how it seemed to me when I tried it. Perhaps it's still a young enough technology that Ninty can perfect it in future games (somehow?), but for now it does seem too gimmicky and not quite functional enough to convince me that it's worthwhile.

I figured the 3D effect would be gimmicky from the get-go. I doubt most people here are/were interested in the 3DS for that anyhow.

oh agreed. I guess I'm just weirded out that it was such a selling point. I mean, "3D" is in the thing's name. Like that's what defines it as a system or something.

I also think the inevitable XL version will be good, as it could benefit from a bigger screen for us old folks.

Maybe they can use the front facing camera to keep track of your eyes and adjust the 3D image accordingly.

The 3D on the Virtual Boy actually worked better than the 3DS, lol.

I played the hell outta my Virtual Boy. I never had any eye strain or headaches. The 3D effect worked well and worked consistently. The downside was having everything in red and black. I was able to play it with my regular glasses on too, which was nice. I think the Virtual Boy was a lot better than most people think.

Mine still works too. I played it a few weeks ago.

If we are just talking about 3D, the Virtual Boy wins but if you take everything into consideration, the 3DS is a much better device. Even with the 3D turned off, the 3DS is a fantastic game machine. Plus, it's actually portable.

Anyone watch Zero Punctuations review of the 3DS? I love the qwip about adding a headmount/strap so you can keep the 3DS as the appropriate distance and angle:

Reminds me of Keith Apacary adding the Virtual Boy headstrap :)
