I'm surprised only one person mentioned Demon's Souls. That game IS an oh shit moment. Some of the bigger ones for me (obviously, spoilers):
-The intro.
-Vanguard killing you in 1 hit in the tutorial, then later showing up as a regular enemy. Thought that was so awesome.
-Discovering that dying in your body not only makes the game progressively harder, but permanently halves your HP until you get your body back.
-Realizing that new games still have the ability to be this good.
-Getting invaded by a Black Phantom is an oh shit moment every time, without fail.
-Most of the bosses really, but specifically, seeing the Dragon God for the very first time.
-Getting your levels stolen by the last boss. That's rough.
I could go on and on really. I love that game.

That makes me think of discovering the run button in Super Metroid.Flodder450 wrote:When i discovered you could punch the heads off of Zombies in TimeSplitters

God I remember being stuck at that part in Brinstar where you HAVE to run through some breakable flooring to get to the red Brinstar section.

The infamous water level in Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
I'm picking up bloodied limbs off the sewer grounds and throwing them behind me to try to keep the underwater creature busy while I work on figuring out how to open the doorway out. Having to turn that slow crank to open the door without being able to turn around and see if the creature was about to gnash it's teeth into me (though I hear him sloshing around behind me). That was a definite "oh shit" moment.

Also putting the controller down for a second only to have the stupid triggers go off and impaling an npc where he ceases to exist FOR THE REST OF THE GAME!brunoafh wrote:I'm surprised only one person mentioned Demon's Souls.
