My list would be so against popular opinion on this it's unreal. 3 of my favourites would be mario sunshine, mario bros 2 and mario land. I also prefer the new super mario bros games to the NES ones for the most part when it comes to 2d mario, although I prefer the 3D games overall.

I kinda agree with this.
The DS version is such a travesty.
I thought it was okay until near the end where there were just too damn many spikes.

My top Mario game would be the original with Super Mario World being a close second. My bottom Mario game would be Super Mario Bros. 3.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that would rank Super Mario Bros. 2 fairly high up on the list. I don't get why some people didn't like it. I think it was a great sequel and I played it to death back when it was released.

I think I would probably put the original Super Mario Bros. at the top of my list though. I can admit it's probably been bested, but nostalgia fuel just makes me love the original the most. When I hear the word "Nintendo" I immediately see World 1-1 in my mind without even thinking about it.

I've played all of them except the portable titles (Mario Land & New Super Mario Bros. DS) I'd say my top 5 (in no particular order):

Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Galaxy

Honorable Mention: Super Mario Sunshine

EDIT: I find including Super Mario Land 1 and 2 but not Yoshi's Island (Which was made by Miyamoto) an odd choice.
I'll give you a 30 second head start (start running)....30...29...28.......

EDIT:
The sequel just didn't measure up somehow (6 Golden Coins).
I'll give you only 10 seconds head start

I think you meant the opposite. It is quite possibly one of the top three platformers of all time, if not the best. As it is, the sentence doesn't make sense.

I'd rank them thus:

1. Super Mario World
2. Super Mario Bros.
3. Super Mario Galaxy
4. Super Mario Bros. 3
5. Super Mario Galaxy 2
6. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
7. Super Mario Land 2
8. Super Mario 64
9. Super Mario Land
10. New Super Mario Bros.
11. Super Mario Bros. 2
12. Super Mario Sunshine

I haven't played Super Mario World 2, Mario 64 DS, Lost Levels, or the Yoshi games...not sure what else we are including/excluding...but I think the above represents all the "main" SMB games that I have played all or part of.

You said in your post that noise has beat all the "13" SMB games but he doesn't rank the Galaxy games at all - have you not played these noise?

I have not played either Galaxy game. I haven't beat all of the others either. Not sure where that came from. I've beat most of them though.

You should give them a try. In my mind they are just about the best Wii games on the system, and certainly the best first-party games.
