I'm with ya on that. Artistic fiber and whatnot, I'm all for it... and that's actually a good paraphrase of what I was trying to say. At least, in a nutshell, I'd have to say that's the most driving factor as far as whether or not I like a band (regardless of genre).aaron wrote:by "heart," i should say that i mean "integrity," not mushy feeling stuff. the bands feel like they're totally manufactured and really just kind of plodding along, i don't hear any innovation within that genre. that's not to say that i can't enjoy some of it but i dislike pop-metal and pop-hardcore more than i dislike just plain old pop because, like i said, it feels like a watered down version of the kind of music that i really garner a lot of emotional attachment to.optmusprimenumber wrote:I get my heart-fix from other bands, but sometimes I need brutal chunky metal chaos and I don't want to hear about their feelings. Also, heart is not a requirement of innovation. But yes, there are MANY-a empty formulaic meaningless crappy bands that leave a bad taste in my mouth.
...which part did you disagree with tho?
To elaborate on "...but sometimes I need brutal chunky metal chaos and I don't want to hear about their feelings": I guess I speaking mostly of metal core (killswitch and company), where the vocalists (ALL of them) have 2 voices, one is the angry cliche brutal metal growling and the other is the "i can sing too i swear and i'm not just angry and hardcore but i also have feelings" voice. I hate that shit. Not only is it corny, but it pales in comparison to the uber talented vocalists who do sing about their feelings in thoughtful, poetic, artistic and capable ways. With integrity and actual vocal talent. My favorite example for that being the Deftones singer... but to cut this short of rambling... Cheers to integrity.
