Actually fellas I had another wild idea, though yall may actually like this one. How about skewing the whole following the eras and pick games from different times as we go. So we may start with Pong, then switch to Goldeneye, then do some dungeon diving with Gauntlet, and then end up with Kolona (ofcourse these games are not all real selections just off the top of my head).
For me it is easiest to go through the consoles as they appear, but I thought this might be the best way to do it. Not only does it keep people guessing about what is next, it means that if for some reason a console somebody does not like at all (say the Atari 7800), they would only have to sit through a short period of the journey. Just an idea.
Also Racket when do you want to start this?
A Journey Though The Best of Classic Gaming
I don't mind that idea TOO much, I kinda also like the idea of seeing more of a history-based transition. It's just so hard to find a good compromise. Each approach has its advantages.
As for the timeframe, I'm currently looking at doing the introductory post a week from today. And then maybe starting the project a week or two after that depending on how things go. Nothing is set in stone, of course.

Count me in. This sounds like a lot of fun, especially since I don't have many friends that have kept gaming over the years or like to play the same games as me. It used to be you go out on the playground at school, and everyone would be talking about the newest NES game. I miss those times, and it'll be nice to play games while having others to discuss it with at the same time.
This is one of the greatest ideas I have heared in ages!
Emulator syndrome, and general lack of motivation has stopped me from going back and playing some of the great games I missed back in the day.
If "Together Retro" can provide a focus along with goals to try and achieve then I think it has a great future.
