If you start with Black and White, you will have a really hard time getting into Diamond/Pearl and even Platinum because they're so much slower (slower text, slower battles, slower everything). But they're probably the worst of the series anyways.

I remember having a hard time getting pokemon red or blue. I think I got Blue first then red. I remember the female worker trying to sell me there used gb copy display version at the same price, it could be worth if it "not for resale", but not sure.

It was worthless to buy pokemon red, blue, green gba version. I stop playing pokemon right after finishing the original gold version. Gameshark was worth getting instead of buying the silver version or trading with a friend.

Personally, I picked:

Red - easy choice, it had a dragon on the front. As opposed to a turtle.
Silver - Lugia > Ho-Oh
Ruby - Kyroge and Groudon both kinda sucked, so it was the lesser of two evils.
Leafgreen - VENUSAUR!!!
Diamond - all my friends wanted pearl.
Black - all my friends wanted White and I kind of don't really care at this point.
I'm going to agree with your logic. I for one remember looking through a guidebook to find out which pokemon were exclusive to what version before ultimately choosing to buy Red. So I think the exclusives do play a role.

Now, see. My experience is just the opposite. I usually find more copies of LeafGreen, than FireRed, especially during recent trips to Gamestops. I haven't seen a copy of FireRed in the wild for quite a while :?

I know he sucked, but just like a Pikachu you don't evolve, it's the coolness/cuteness factor that makes you use him.

Back in the day I choose version I'd buy on which one had a cooler cover. Nowadays however, I choose what version to buy based on one has better pokemon/better items and such.

I mean, it will start a discussion on what's considered boyish and girlish, but I did find it intriguing enough. Like say, Red, which is an aggressive colour, outsold Blue, which is much calmer, generally young men are more aggressive than girls, so they'd go with red and vice versa. I find it really curious anyways, regardless of it merit. There's more guy gamers than girl gamers, so there'd be more boys growing up and discarding their games thus it plays into the above posts of more manlier colours being available in the wild. Mind, I find Ruby far, far more prevalent used than Sapphire and Emerald.
makes sense. I mean traditionally the color to paint a baby boy's nursery is red.
'Cos you find alot of parents buying Game boys for their newborns?
