The last handheld I've had was the original gameboy, so I appreciate everyones response. Plus I brought home a brand new baby girl two weeks ago and she tends to get all my time these days.

I'm not into emulation, so I could careless about that in a handheld console. I would love to own both but $$$ is an issue. Little girls are expensive! ;)

I really like traditional turn based rpgs. I'm not too interested in action rpgs. I'm not a big Pokemon fan. I played the original ones, so I feel like it is the same game every time. I loved the Persona games on the ps2. I enjoy FF and DQ.

Thanks! :)

If money is an issue, then get a ds, as it is inexpensive and alot of the games are cheap as well. There is alot if you are a DQ fan; DQ IV, V, VI, IX, and Monsters Joker. For FF, there is III, IV, and Tactics A2.

I can see this going towards either one.

The Core pack of PSP is at USD $129, which is the same as a DS lite - at this point I would not recommend you to buy the DSi or DSi XL since there are no GBA slot + DSi Ware hasn't been fully integrated between the DSi account and 3DS.'

Keep in mind that a Core pack is barebones as it is, you will need to spend extra $ for a memory stick Duo card (get one that has at least 4GB), that is necessary for game data and PSN downloads; an extended battery kit can more than double the normal play time on the PSP (at least for the official one), but that is optional.

Otherwise the prices for games on both system are about the same (for physical media at least); at you hoping to buy at least 2~4 games so that you can beat the games fully, or buy as many as good/decent games so you can change around?

There are plenty of turn-base RPGs for both system.

I have a budget of $150. The first game is going to have to be long! ;)

I think with that you should be able to pick up a new PSP, a used UMD RPG, and a PSone classic.

At UDS $150, that is a tight budget.

Would you consider buying used consoles in good working condition, as well as used games? Since a brand new DS and PSP Core are both USD $129 (without tax). You can find games on ebay and Amazon that will be cheaper than retails (Nintendo does NOT have Player's Choice lower price any more  )

Ehh. More like 1 game. You'd still need a memory stick... Maybe you could get 2 used games?

I'm going to give the decision two more weeks...

Right now I'm leaning more toward the PSP because I just noticed that Phantasy Star Portable 2 (Online) is on it!

Has anyone played Phantasy Star Portable 2 yet? Is it as good as the original one on the Dreamcast?
