Also, it isn't the greatest port ever, but the Atari 2600 port of Space Invaders is pretty significant, historically. I'm pretty sure it was the first official arcade port. It's also, as I understand, the reason the 2600 was able to sell so well.

Agree on Space Invaders, a close rendition.

Also How about other games that were inspired by the original Arcade?

Chopper Command - (Defender)
Looks like Defender and even has the radar.

Empire Strikes Back - (Defender)
Okay maybe not quite the same, but it also has radar.

Warlords,Breakout,Ms Pacman,Phoenix,Jr Pacman-Asteroids is a really good conversion despite the obvious graphical changes they had to make but the best arcade conversion by far in my opinion is Berzerk.

While I do agree that Berzerk is a solid conversion, I still cannot get the Crazy Otto/Jumping Smiley Faces to show up. Someone told me that you have to have the difficulty switched turned to expert or whatever, but it still doesn't seem to do the trick for me...

I think Evil Otto shows up when you stay in a room for too long. I can't remember what difficulty it is...

Well I've cleared out rooms and took my time a bit on the hard difficulty and he won't show. He always showed after a little while on the arcade...

Evil Otto is totally in the 2600 version of Berzerk, the difficulty has to be at 2 or higher for him to show. That being said, Berzerk is one of my all time favorite games for the 2600 and a solid port.

dont you mean gameplay? with the atari's limited graphics you have to compare it to gameplay compared to the original arcade.

all of the games described here do play like their arcade counterpart but not the graphics.

back then the programmers did their best to make the games just like the ones in the arcades.

just wanted to throw my opinion into the mix

It depends what game (difficulty) you have selected to play on,there are 12 games on the 2600 version of Berzerk and Evil Otto is not in games 1,4,7,12 there is a html version of the manual in the Atar-age archive:-

I always liked the 2600 port of Missile Command. Never played the arcade but the 2600 one held up pretty well.
