What Are The Best Arcade Ports on the Atari 2600?
What Are The Best Arcade Ports on the Atari 2600?
Of course, there are a ton of arcade ports, but which ones are actually impressive and hold up well?

I always thought Asteroids held up pretty well. Obviously the Atari cannot replicate the vector graphics but the way the ship will drift gives a good feeling of momentum.

Warlords. Four play action with the gameplay intact.

Atari 2600 and good arcade ports usually don't go together. That's why systems like Commodore 64 and Colecovision started taking away from Atari 2600's sales. Obviously there's gonna be a few exceptions. But for the most part, arcade ports translated poorly to Atari 2600's limited hardware.

What? You obviously haven't played Joust on the Atari.BurningDoom wrote:Atari 2600 and good arcade ports usually don't go together. This is better and more informative then the "Let's Name the Top 100 <Insert the next console here> (Original) Games Together" Thread garbage. Everyone posting their favorites with no reviews or reason.
Back on track, here are two:
PACMAN JR
I am still hunting for this one, the unique mazes compared to the arcade.

BREAKOUT
Like Warlords, the 2600 even has the paddles simulating the Arcade Spinner!

I've found those interesting due to titles appearing that necessarily wouldn't make an "official" top 100 list. A little variation is nice~CRTGAMER wrote:This is better and more informative then the "Let's Name the Top 100 <Insert the next console here> (Original) Games Together" Thread garbage. And on the OP, best arcade ports on the 2600?? Can't think of one that isn't significantly better on the next gen of hardware after it.

Stargate has a pretty solid port, as does Ms. Pac-Man, particularly when you compare these to the ports of their predecessors.

Atari 2600 Ms. Pac-Man is a lot better than the port of Pac-Man, but I still wouldn't call it a good port. It's still a longshot from the actual arcade. I own both.Gao wrote:Stargate has a pretty solid port, as does Ms. Pac-Man, particularly when you compare these to the ports of their predecessors.

With all of the hacks and workarounds required for each game, they're both pretty impressive.BurningDoom wrote: Atari 2600 Ms. Pac-Man is a lot better than the port of Pac-Man, but I still wouldn't call it a good port. It's still a longshot from the actual arcade. I own both.
