I would also like to stress the points above. In general, it just seems to be a better idea to leave your PS3 flat for that all important air circulation if you can.CRTGAMER wrote: 1.Niode 's advice of leaving the PS3 desktop mode flat for better air circulation.
2. NOT using a cheap extension cord, the low amp rating murder on the PS3 hungry power needs.

Re: Original Fat 60 gig PS3
My launch 60gb's bluray laser died, (a $100 repair) but thankfully the DVD still works. So being a lunch model I was worried what would break down next so I just bought a new slim ps3. I haven't bothered to fix the laser in the 60gb because it still plays ps2 games up-scaled (PS2 is in the closet now), and I use my new slim for PS3 games to minimize ware! Works great if you have the room in your entertainment center and the cash to do it.
Re: Original Fat 60 gig PS3
dont own a launch version. even though i wanted one. i didnt want to spend $600 friggin dollars on one. So i opted for the semi-backwards compatible 80gb motorstorm version. (paid $500) Still going strong as well. Even though its a bit newer.

I own a 60gb PS3 as well... the only PS3 worth owning in my opinion. In fact if Sony released the PS3, as the model they are selling now, I would never have bought one.

I can agree with this. I've been on the fence about getting a PS3 for a while now and, after doing some research, this is the only model I'll consider buying.ujnhunter wrote:I own a 60gb PS3 as well... the only PS3 worth owning in my opinion. My launch 60gb PS3 is still going strong. I love the thing.

I had the same problem and fixed mine myself for half that. If the blu-ray laser is dead, I reckon it's only a matter of time before DVDs and PS2 games stop working too. Mine went out the same way...

My launch unit 60GB is still working. Thankfully.

My brother is still running his 20GB launch system and no problems yet.
