On the Genesis IMO it's mandatory to own Comix Zone and Ristar.

Dynamite Headdy is fantastic as well.

Ziggy587 wrote:Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the games on the SNES' Defined list. I never agreed with Uniracers on there (really? for real with that game? Contra or Castlevania are honorable mentions and Uniracers makes the main list?) but any of the other games are solid choices.
While I also believe Contra and Castlevania helped define the console, one of the things I remember specifically about the SNES while growing up is the sheer number of ads I saw for Uniracers. I don't think I've ever seen a commercial for Castlevania or Contra, but I've never forgotten those short clips of Uniracer stages...which is pretty funny, considering it's the only one of those three I haven't ever played. In fact, it's pretty much the only commercial for a SNES game that I actually remember, which should probably tell you how often they played that bloody thing during my cartoons.

Anyway, a few games that I have enjoyed:

SNES-

Hack and Slash
The King of Dragons
Magic Sword

RPG
Final Fantasy III (VI in Japan)
Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
Live A Live (import)

Fighting
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Killer Instinct
WeaponLord
Gundam Wing: Endless Duel (import)

Platformer
Donkey Kong Country 2
Mega Man X
Mickey and Minnie in the Great Circus Mystery
Kirby Super Star

Run and Gun
Cybernator

Oh man, as much as I love Thunder Force III / AC, the 4th game is on a whole new level. Quite a bit tougher, bigger vertical scaling levels, some of the best graphics on the Genesis, some of the best music on the Genesis, etc... might even be my favorite shmup!

Mega Drive/Genesis collecting isn't that expensive, nothing compared to SNES collecting.
Phantasy Star IV
M.U.S.H.A.
Cotton
And all those Mega Drive add-ons (32X, SegaCD, SMS adapter) with games of their own.

I can see the argument for Super Famicom/SNES titles though. R2, Metal Warriors, and any fan-worth-their-salt hoarding copies of Earthbound.

Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

My faves?
SNES:
Actraiser
Link to the Past

Whether you play them on SNES or a port of them is up to you, and your wallet :D

As far as Genesis goes...
