"New" SNES and Genesis
I had just purchased a pristine SNES and Sega Genesis and I was wondering...
At PAX East this year I saw a lot of really solid titles for both of these systems.
After the Keith Api-party A few of the Racketboy folks and I went to a classic console free-play area (which is just what the name implies it to be). I saw a ton of classic gamers jamming out to the pixels and shaders that made gaming what it is today. Each of these gamers naturally had their own opinion as to what the most solid titles on some of these consoles were.
I am indecisive as to what I should build my new classic gaming collection around.
Help me Racketboy, your my only hope. All 'yall throw some game titles at me that represent the best games on the SNES and Genesis.
GO!

Why did Kevin Flynn blare Journey so loud in his arcade? Was he trying to hear it from the grid?

Yeah, but that is a bit broad. I want to know personal favorites, the single ones that (in your opinion) no one man should live without.

You like platformers at all?
Get Rocket Knight Adventures on Genesis.
If you like that, pick up the sequel on Genesis (Sparkster) and the spin off on SNES (also Sparkster). Same name, two totally different games.
All three are awesome and are up there among my favorite games of the 16 bit era.

Re: "New" SNES and Genesis
The Aladdin games are both great. the SNES one is more platforming oriented and the one I'm more familiar with, but the Genesis version is more of a beat-em-up. Personally I feel that Platforming fits Aladdin's roguish style more, but that's just me. They're one of a handful of examples of movie-based games done right.
If you prefer RPGs, SNES is the way to go. Both Squaresoft and Enix released several gems, though many of them never came stateside, so you'll have to either emulate them with translates, get repro carts made, or purchase a Powerpack explicitly for that.
Both company's first-party games are generally good.

Re: "New" SNES and Genesis
Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the games on the SNES' Defined list. I never agreed with Uniracers on there (really? for real with that game? Contra or Castlevania are honorable mentions and Uniracers makes the main list?) but any of the other games are solid choices.littlecallen wrote:Yeah, but that is a bit broad. Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World (or each individually), all three Donkey Kong Country's, Star Fox, Link to the Past, Super Mario Kart, F-Zero, Mega Man 7, Castlevania 4, Contra 3. You really can't go wrong with any of these games.
Re: "New" SNES and Genesis
No man should be without Contra Hard Corps on the Genesis. Seriously.
I could list titles all day, but you requested a personal favorite. There you have it.
