Would you believe I've never played that game?brunoafh wrote:No man should be without Contra Hard Corps on the Genesis. Seriously.
I could list titles all day, but you requested a personal favorite. There you have it.
What the hell is wrong with me? I need to get on that.

Re: "New" SNES and Genesis
Just some forewarning, that game is probably the hardest contra game. If you have the ability, I'd recommend the japanese version, which gives infinite continues instead of only 5.CFFJR wrote:Would you believe I've never played that game?brunoafh wrote:No man should be without Contra Hard Corps on the Genesis. Also, for SNES, I'd recommend any Kirby or Starfox title. If you enjoy minigolf Kirby's dream course is a must.
Current systems: Atari 2600[x2], NES(top loader), SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation, PS2, PS2 slim, xbox, xbox 360, Turbografx-16, Game Boy Pocket, Game boy SP[x2], Nintendo DS[x2], Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS, Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Wonderswan Color, Neo Geo MVS.
Re: "New" SNES and Genesis
It may be the hardest, but I would argue that it's by far the best. Contra III is great, yes, but Hard Corps is the pinnacle of 16-but run and gun and a defining Genesis game.

Man, I can't believe I forgot that.
JT's list is great, and I'd like to second his suggestion of Demon's Crest. That game is fantastic.

Was Hard Corps the one with a ton of giant alien head bosses and such? That's pretty vague but maybe it says enough, lol. Or I'm mixing it up with some other Genesis shmup/shooter. I know this is common in Contra games, but yeah... I just remember some shooter that was loaded with those hilariously weird mystical heads.brunoafh wrote:It may be the hardest, but I would argue that it's by far the best. Anyways, I could probably list like a hundred titles personally like others here, but I guess I'll throw down some favorites that spring to mind:
SNES:
- Link to the Past and Super Metroid have been my tied favorites since forever, and ever.
- Secret of Mana, one of the most surreal JRPG's I've ever played. The atmosphere is mindblowing.
- Super Mario RPG, was my first real RPG and it stands the test of time easily, I've beaten this one countless times.
- Mega Man X
- Castlevania IV
- Donkey Kong Country series
- Lost Vikings
- Killer Instinct
Genesis:
- Shinobi 3, THAT SOUNDTRACK!
- Thunder Force IV, THAT SOUNDTRACK! (Lightning Force in the US)
- Sonic 1 - S&K, and I love 3D Blast but it's not a fan favorite.
- Vectorman series
- Streets of Rage series, especially 2-3
And there. Utterly random list of stuff for starters (even kind of timed myself there haha). Have fun.
Re: "New" SNES and Genesis
Phantasy Star IV was alluded to just once. What is UP with that?
(Also, most of the AAA titles for both systems are quite rare and expensive. Quite a few SNES games are possibly being hoarded and the best Mega Drive games had limited runs. Yay?)

My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.

Re: "New" SNES and Genesis
There's not an abundance of alien heads, but I can recall 2 or 3. Haven't played through it in awhile. Hard Corps is the one with the wolf with a machine gun arm and the robot as playable characters. That ought to remind you of it if anything will.Ryvius wrote:Was Hard Corps the one with a ton of giant alien head bosses and such? That's pretty vague but maybe it says enough, lol. Mega Drive/Genesis collecting isn't that expensive, nothing compared to SNES collecting.pakopako wrote:(Also, most of the AAA titles for both systems are quite rare and expensive. Quite a few SNES games are possibly being hoarded and the best Mega Drive games had limited runs. Yay?)

Yes, yes, a million times yes.CFFJR wrote:You like platformers at all?
Get Rocket Knight Adventures on Genesis.
Some personal favorites of mine:
Genesis:
Thunder Force III (still haven't played Lightening Force)
TRUXTON
PulseMan
Alien Soldier
Dynamite Heady
VectorMan (I know, already mentioned)
Mega Turrican (no one mentioned this?)
Super NES:
Super Turrican (Not quite as good as Mega Turrican, but still fun. 'Til you get to the Ice Level)
Pocky & Rocky (I suck at this game, but love the hell out of it)
