Why should the other consoles contributions be limited because the Dreamcast only lasted 2 years?

I thought that all of those consoles you listed had some pretty great games in the first two years. It didnt really prove your point I feel.
Yeah, he left alot of great Dreamcast stuff out, although I would agree with his sentiments... I think the important thing to pay attention to are all the games that were produced by Sega. I think that from 1998-2002, Sega was the greatest video game developer of all time, hands-down. Another thing I like to point out are all the games that were on their way for the Dreamcast, like Virtua Fighter 4, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Super Monkey Ball, Jet Set Radio Future, The House of the Dead III, Half-Life, GunValkyrie, Shinobi, Sega GT 2002, and possibly Air NiGHTS and Thunder Force VI (I've never completely understood the nature of their cancellation...)

Anyway, the Dreamcast did have an insane volume of originally-exclusive titles released over the course of a couple years...

2K series
Capcom vs. SNK series
ChuChu Rocket
Cosmic Smash
Crazy Taxi series
Daytona USA 2001
Dead or Alive 2
Ecco the Dolphin: DOTF
F355 Challenge: Passione Rossa
Fur Fighters
Grandia II
Guilty Gear X
The House of the Dead 2
Ikaruga
Jet Set Radio
Marvel vs. Capcom series
MDK 2
Metropolis Street Racer
Phantasy Star Online series
Power Stone series
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Rez
Samba de Amigo
Seaman
Sega Rally 2
Segagaga
Shenmue series
Skies of Arcadia
Sonic Adventure series
SoulCalibur
Space Channel 5 series
Street Fighter III series
The Typing of the Dead
Toy Commander
Virtua Tennis series
Virtual-On: Oratorio Tangram

That's only counting ones I know not to have originated elsewhere. And while those are all great games, I have to point your attention to Rez, Shenmue, Phantasy Star Online, Samba de Amigo, Seaman, Jet Set Radio, and The Typing of the Dead particularly, because that degree of originality in such a short amount of time (particularly by ONE company) has never been paralleled.

Anyway, the Dreamcast is impressive just as much for its innovative hardware as its software... built-in modem, VMU, motion controls, sophisticated voice-recognition, online capabilities including multi-player and downloadable content. It's in a class of its own, just like the NES.

No, it's based off the average of a system's aggregate review scores of the console itself from readers and... some other source which I don't completely understand. So we're arguing against GameFAQs as a collective entity... or something.

HOWEVER, you're right, the Gamecube is a severely underrated console.

Because he's making an argument for the way the Dreamcast was able to produce quality and quantity simultaneously... he could have taken *any* two years from these consoles and made the same argument. Of course, some people like slow-burning consoles better, but it's a valid point to make when you consider the strengths of a console to say "It put out like, a game per second, and they were all amazing."

Instead of comparing the first 2 years of each console, how about we just compare the fourth year of each one?

That's essentially what I was saying, got a bit carried away. But I feel that most consoles on that list last four or five years, whilst the Dreamcast had half that time. Of course, PS2 took a while to get some great games so while my point may be irrelevant, I thought it was a good argument for how much Sega achieved in that period. But after looking at games released in the first two years of them consoles, I was a little surprised at the number of Gamecube games, kinda sickens me it was discarded by many as a kids console.

would have switched out the gamecube and PS3 spots, and then switched the PS3 and genesis spots.
I dont hate the PS3 at all, but it's still a baby yet.
Why did Kevin Flynn blare Journey so loud in his arcade? Was he trying to hear it from the grid?
