I pretty much agree. But I would have put Sega Genesis at the #3 spot. I also wouldn't have put PS3. It's not a bad system, at all. It's just that I don't feel it's reached the same status as PSX and PS2. I would have bumped XBox (XBox Live, first hard drive, Halos, Morrowind, KOTOR, Jade Empire) higher and replaced #11 with Sega Master System.

Waiting for 12-year olds complaining that the 360 isn't on top.

Yeah, I have to agree that the PS3 hasn't reached that status yet (neither has the 360). SMS deserves a spot there too...where's the love for the 2600? Sorry but for many of us, it was the beginning of a crack-like addiction and with so many games, there was something (hell, there IS something) for everyone.

It's hard to make a list like this... it really depends on what exactly is meant by "best".

Having said that, the list is actually pretty decent. If I were to make alterations...
-NES and SNES should be switched.
-Genesis should be higher.
-XBox? Decent console and all, but shouldn't be on any greatest console lists. It can't get by on the whole "pioneering online gaming" thing either, the DC gets that point.
-PC Engine should be in the top 5, but since this is a list made by a US site with US voters and such, it's absence makes sense. PC Engine/Turbografx had pretty much no effect here.

Which is a shame sadly, lots of killer stuff there. Really wish those were bigger in the US and could've been something I grew up with.

Anyways for me all I know is that the SNES is my #1. Always has been, probably always will be. Outside of that it gets a little sketchy for me and I never really try to order them too much. I have lots of fond memories growing up with the NES originally, it easily stands the test of time and I still go back to play many of my favorites again, or discover some new gems. I have a soft spot for the Genesis as well, even though I only had one for a short while when I was younger, it wasn't until much later that I'd get one again... but I have such strong nostalgia for it since most of my friends had one back in the day, so I still played a lot of its games.

I was a big Nintendo fanboy growing up and didn't get into the PSX until a little late, maybe 10-12 years ago. That one has easily stood the test of time and I've still got plenty of games to play for it, the library is just insane and this was one of my favorite eras of gaming. So sometimes I almost want to consider the PSX my #2, but it's hard to say. I loved the N64 to death back in the day, but nowadays I think the PSX has aged a bit better and still has a lot more to offer.

So yeah, for me it's:
1. SNES
2. NES, Genesis, PSX

After that I dunno, but I think these are easily my top choices and have the best and biggest consistent libraries to offer.

Even if you take out portables and PC-clones (ie: C64) there is still a huge pool of home consoles to choose from. Channel F, Coleco, MSX...

Nice to see the DC up there at #3, and still sort of glad the 2600 made it. Not sure why the PSx/PS2 is lumped as one console because the PSx sure as heck would have knocked a few things off. (In fact, I find for a Top-10, there are a few consoles too many on that list...)
