True. It could be said that Dreamcast was the first AFFORDABLE console with arcade perfect ports.Bradtemple87 wrote:Umm... the Neo Geo home console launched in 1990, almost a decade before the dreamcast, and has stronger arcade ports. Re: Top 10 Consoles According to GameFAQs
As much as I love the Dreamcast, not sure if I could put it in the top 3. There is not enough balance to the system, particularly with RPGs, in which it lacks (although skies and grandia are excellent). I would place it maybe 5 or 6.
Not sure why the ps3 is so much higher up the list than the 360. I would have grouped them closer together since both systems bring a similar gaming experience. Perhaps 8-9 for them.
I also would have not included n64 and gamecube in favor of systems like turbo grafix and neo-geo.

Dreamcast HAS to be #1. It lasted two years, compare it to other consoles and what they put out in their first two years and it doesn't compare.

I can't be bothered to research the older consoles too for their first two years of games, but Dreamcast and then Gamecube demonstrate that when it comes to exclusives they were excellent. If Dreamcast lasted another two years and had support from EA and others, who knows how great it would have become.
NES and SNES were before my time (well I grew up with a Genesis/Mega Drive) so I didn't get to appreciate them. I need to rectify this asap.

Re: Top 10 Consoles According to GameFAQs
...y'know, I can go with the rankings the NES gets. Although I get bothered when I hear people say things like, "Super Mario Bros. was the first platforming adventure EVER!" *looks at Pitfall* and, "The Legend of Zelda was the first open-world adventure game EVER!" *looks at Elite*, you can't argue that the console is the most iconic, influential, and among the most original gaming machines of all time. The Super Nintendo, though... I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a fucking amazing console, but the console's library is nothing more than the logical extension of the NES in the majority of cases... you have some great original releases, but imagine the Super Nintendo without its sequels to NES series. If I were to summarize the Super Nintendo in a sentence, I'd say that it rode the coat-tails of its older brother without fucking things up.
I would say, #1: NES, #2 Sega Dreamcast (my favorite, but I'm trying to be objective), #3 Sony PlayStation (begrudgingly, since third-parties deserve ALL the credit there), and Super Nintendo as #4 with the Sega Mega Drive right behind it (unless you count the Sega CD attachment, in which case we'll be arguing for awhile
). I think that the Neo-Geo and PC-Engine definitely deserve their places on this list (and that the Sega Saturn deserves a higher place than the dumpy ol' '64, Ocarina or not), but they're definitely hardcore-chic, so I don't know that's a very good objective argument if you're trying to look at things from in a broader light.
Actually, going back... the PlayStation doesn't seem as great as people have convinced me it was... outside of Konami and Squaresoft's entries and a few great little quirky games out of left field (Parappa the Rapper, Intelligent Qube, Vib Ribbon), none of the exclusive games really blew me away.

I thought that all of those consoles you listed had some pretty great games in the first two years. It didnt really prove your point I feel.

How many of you actually read the stats in the list? The list is based off the average of a system's aggregate review scores of all games. It is NOT based off the list composer's opinion.
