The partner thing definitely wasn't my only complaint personally, it was just about everything. Chris sucks, Sheva was worse, they ruined Jill, horrible inventory system, bland environments, BAD HOLLYWOODIZED MUSIC (considering how amazing the music is in the other games this is a huge issue for me), Wesker became the Matrix and a cliche' Deus Ex machina villain (also felt like there was no point to Wesker capturing all the other viruses in the previous games), they gave zombies guns, no good memorable boss fights at all, game felt half as long as RE4, etc etc etc.

I agree with pretty much all that, but RE4 set my expectations for future iterations so incredibly low that that it made it so I couldn't possibly be disappointed yet again. It pretty much told me "Hey, RE is now a generic shooter. Enjoy", so I just did my best to attempt to do so. I looked at RE5 through a humor lens mostly, Matrix Wesker was hilarious.

I guess it's understandable how you felt about it that way then. For me I thought RE4 was amazing stuff, gameplay wise and all. The RE series has never been anything to take too seriously and RE4 was no exception, with Leon's awesome one liners, silly things like that, but it was still charming in the end to me (kind of like the DMC games). On the other hand, RE5 just really didn't have that spark.

Overall though despite what many say (insert usual control complaints lol), I still favor the classic styled games the most, but yeah personally loved RE4. So I guess unlike you my expectations were pretty high for RE5... and it didn't deliver much, lol.

At this point though I seriously hope the franchise gets a reboot. I'm sure my distaste for RE5 stems a lot from the fact that creator Shinji Mikami had nothing to do with it, and with him completely out of the picture now I'd just hope they start something new and don't bring down the franchise anymore than they have. Then again I guess we've already got new 3DS installments coming, so my wish is not happening. I'd just hate to see them ruin Leon and Ada. :?

Quick question about RE5...

Can you play co-op on the same system, or is it strictly online? If I ever play the game, I'd like to get my wife to play it with me.

Just enjoy the half-assed split screen!
(ie on HDTV's you'll only see like 80% of the TV used up. I guess it makes sense to retain the aspect ratio and it's in other games... but still funny).

Eh screen says it best:

For the record, the AI's not so terrible that you can't beat the game...on normal. However on harder difficulties you are practically required to find a friend to play with, and even then there are certain places that you may never get beyond. The giant battle comes to mind...
