Holy crap. Really? I guess I wouldn't have to spend an arm and a leg getting those GC component cables.CFFJR wrote:Its worth noting that playing gamecube games on the wii (assuming you have the Wii component cables I believe) will allow you to use the progressive scan mode for any GC game that supports it.

Xbox 360 uses software emulation to run official xbox games, and many Ps3 models used software too before b/c was dropped on ps3.d123456 wrote:ah, you beat me to it. Exactly. ps1/ps2/N64/gc emulators on pc. do can do massive upgrades.Hobie-wan wrote:Not entirely true. Older 3d games could still be played at higher resolution and with better texture filtering. Look at what Bleem and other PS1 emulators can do for those games.
I think the future will be emulation.
It's totally possible to have internal upscaling and texture filtering, pretty much every emulator out there does it. By extension it would've been totally possible for the ps3 and xbox to do it. I don't know why it was never implemented.
I'm really hoping here that if Nintendo ever does a Wii HD they go with that idea.

It's sad that the GC backward compatibility on a Wii is one of the biggest reasons why I want one again.Opa Opa wrote:Holy crap. Really? That, and well yeah I'm not throwing out ~$90 for some GC component cables!

Re: Backwards Compatibility
The best example of backwards compatibility is on the GBASP, where it makes all old game boy and gameboy colour games actual visible!

That was the only one I knew for sure was a true fact. It's amazing how much better a simple backlit screen is on those games.Betamax001 wrote:The best example of backwards compatibility is on the GBASP, where it makes all old game boy and gameboy colour games actual visible!

Yeah, I can't go back to a regular GB after playing my old games on a GBA SP.

2. Metroid Prime Trilogy
3. DKCR
4. Skyward Sword
... yeah that's about it.
The GC was greatness, so yeah that really is probably the #1 reason I want one so I can play those games looking fine and nice on the HDTV. Haha.

Re: Backwards Compatibility
When I was a kid, I always thought that Super Nintendo should be able to play Nes games. I've actually never noticed the difference of ps1 graphics on a ps2 (if it improves it at all)
