For example, I own great games on the Wii, but I find it annoying just to delve into a Wii game because of everything involved. The Wii has the sensor bar that needs to be setup correctly. Then, I need to determine whether a game uses a nunchuk or just the Wiimote or the classic controller, or perhaps a plastic attachment that makes the experience better.
Moving on, we have the fragmentation of two consoles in the Xbox 360 and PS3. Both Microsoft and Sony felt the need to hop on the motion control bandwagon and introduce the Kinect and Move, respectively. In addition, the advent of 3D gaming and 3D television. This, however, introduces another layer of annoyances with gaming. Take a look at this Killzone cover and its wonderful smattering of logos and gimmicks and it would be enough to prove my point.

Of course, we have always had "add-ons" and accessories, but I guess I'm truly getting older and becoming increasingly annoyed with modern gaming. In contrast, I realize that offering options is always a good thing for consumers and they simply remain options, which people can choose to accept or decline.
To end my ramblings, it was beautiful when all I had to do was plug in my NES controller and power it on. I didn't have to calibrate anything or have to worry about gimmicks and different control options/accessories. Then again, it's probably why I invest more into a retro collection and am registered on a forum that primarily discusses retro games. Yet, I'm still the owner or a PS3, Wii (with tons of accessories,) 360, and Kinect.
Sorry guys and gals, just felt like starting a topic.
Edit: Just wanted to add, running out of space for everything is always a problem.
