Problem solved
Re: Rant: my mom and my games
Steal her stuff and use the proceeds to buy stuff for your brother (wii games you'll just happen to like as well). I think she deserves some of her own medicine. I feel for you. Mother's are irrational and crazy creatures. Logic and reason have no place in a arguments with your mother. Hope you can sort this shit out.
Re: Rant: my mom and my games
I've known a few people who had similar problems with their families. In their cases there ended up being nothing they could really do to stop their parents from trying to take advantage of them besides cutting off relations with them. I think you did the right thing by getting your games out of the house, that's probably the easiest solution. If things ever get worse I'd recommend looking into small claims court just so you know about it, iirc $200 is enough to file a claim. It'd be horrible to have to actually go to court, and you probably can't at 17, but having the knowledge would make it pretty clear that your serious.
Re: Rant: my mom and my games
I think moving your stuff to your friend's house was definitely the best place to go. You assert your authority over the property you bought without going too far and insulting her feelings of authority over the house. As long as you don't escalate things and make sure she doesn't try to go behind your back and get the games from your friend's house things should start going better for you.

Re: Rant: my mom and my games
My mom use to be pretty messed up. When I was a child she would just take things out of my room to sell them at pawn shops. She got my entire nes, snes, and gameboy collections at different points in my life.
At least you are only 1 year away from being out of the house so thats good. If you were feeling vindictive you could always go find some things in her room worth some money, sell them, and buy back what she has taken

Unfortunately in this country minors are essentially property. You are barely better off than livestock. If you're not prepared to apply for emancipation, then you have no recourse whatsoever.
BTW, you're going to be 18 soon. I'd urge you to remember the hardship our medical system has put on you and your family when it comes time to vote.

Re: Rant: my mom and my games
That's something my parents would have never dreamed of doing when I was young. That's a total lack of respect on your mothers part.
Thanks everyone...

Wait a second, where did you pull that from? I see NO indication in his posts that his mom is pawning stuff because of medical bills.

Yeah, it seems like a really odd and inappropriate place to be soliciting a political agenda.
Re: Rant: my mom and my games
It is completely wrong for your mother to steal your things and sell them like that. However, what she is doing may be legal since you are 17.
Ideally, the two of you would sit down and talk this over. Get her to understand what she is doing is wrong and to knock it the fuck off because it really upsets you.
If she insists on being a disrespectful and selfish mother, keep your shit at your friend's house and just put up with it until you are 18. Keep saving up as much money as you can in the meantime. As soon as you hit 18, get the fuck out of your mother's house and get an apartment.
Your story reminds me of my own mother. She is selfish and irresponsible and doesn't respect me either. When I was living in her house at age 18 or 19, she would always bitch at me about playing video games. My whole life she complained about me playing video games, but it got really bad after I became 18. I couldn't take it anymore so I got an apartment with some friends. Even though I was very poor and could barely afford to live on my own, I loved the freedom it gave me.

Just be glad that expensive game was action 52, a horrible game. If I may ask, why did you buy that?
In any case, just get a safe.
