It's a fun little Pokemon clone, but instead of capturing monsters, you get parts to upgrade your giant robot. There's less exploring than Pokemon (there's only one town, and you go through by selecting options on a menu rather than wandering or anything), but there's a little bit more of a plot, and the characters have more than just one line each. The main problem is that it's pretty short. I think I completed it in like 10 hours or something.alienjesus wrote:* Biomotor Unitron
It's good, but it somehow feels a hair less polished than the other fighters I've played on the NGPC. Like it's based on an earlier version of the engine that was used for King of Fighters R2 or something. It's still a good game, but with so many quality fighters on this system, there really isn't much reason to get this over the others.Fatal Fury F
Pretty much plays like Samurai Shodown! 2. For some reason, I never got into this one that much.* Last Blade
I loved this when I first got it, but then I got the sequel and found that it did just about everything a little better, so I don't go back to this one as much. It's definitely worth getting, but the sequel should be a higher priority for someone just getting into the system.Metal Slug 1st Mission
It's a solid port of Pac-Man that gives you the option of selecting a zoomed out screen that shows the entire map or one that shows everything at full resolution, but has to scroll to show more of the maze. It's otherwise just a straight port of the arcade game.Pacman
This is entirely made up of boss fights. It's not bad, but it'll disappoint people who are looking for a regular Mega Man game, and it's pretty easy. I kind of like it, but most don't, and it probably isn't really worth picking up for most people when you can get so many better games so much cheaper on this console.* Rockman Battle & Fighters
It's not obscure at all, but you didn't mention Samurai Shodown! 2, which is a really solid fighter, though it's not my favorite on the console.Feel free to suggest other games I havent listed too (except SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Milennium - I know thats great, but I've heard plenty about it, I'd rather find out some stuff I know less about!)

I am very tired right not, which makes me rememeber other tired things. Like my rant about how SONY Is taking the NGP moniker for their, well, NGP. (Which when 2020 rolls around, will be SONY's LGP.)
I went and am compiling a top-10 for GameFAQ's about the two dozen gems the system holds.
Top ten reasons why you should think of SNK's NGP before SONY's NGP
Biomotor Unitron
A little flat for me. I just don't have the OCD tendencies any more and the presentation looks quite bland. The sequel (non-English) looks loads better though.
Baseball Stars
If you've played Extra Innings on your SNES, you can get why this non-MLB game can be so addicting. It's a balance of high-visibility graphics, smooth animation, simple pitching control, and highly responsive batting.
Neo Turf Master
It is so addicting to collect God Clubs. There is a reason this shows up in the Virtual Console. Very calming. Very easy. Very fun. Very good this is on a portable.
Card Fighters' Clash
The SNK/Capcom-themed games were capitalizing on the card-game phase at the time after games like Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon Trading Cards. The sequel, which was released in limited quantities in Japan only, had a deeper system and was much more fan-wankier.
Dark Arms
A very pretty Hack-n-Slash, the smooth animation really brings this undead game to life. You can unlock and customize 10 weapons against hordes of creatures in nearly a dozen scenic locations. Being a portable, this doesn't take the 100+ hours that PC games take, but it does take the edge off those boring trips.
Densetsu no Ogre Battle: Zenobia no Ouji / Legend of Ogre Battle: Prince of Zenobia
For those of you reading (all eight of you) who could forget the precursor to the Tactics Ogre series -- Ogre Battle / Ogre Battle 64? For those of you that played those great quasi-RTS games (all four of you), there was another game in the series that never saw an English release. Based on the original games designed by Quest/Enix, this game was a faithful sequel created by SNK.
Metal Slug 2nd Mission (and 1st Mission)
Pocket coin-op delight. The first game looks more like Metal Slug, but the second is where the difficulty gets ramped up.
Sonic the Hedgehog: Pocket Adventure
FASELEI!
My favorite portable tactical RPG ever. Its length is perfect for a portable, its story is very compelling, and despite only knowing them for a short while, the characters are quite down-to-earth. (Or perhaps I'm still shaking off my 70s/80s space-opera nostalgia.) The gameplay is a rare sight of puzzle and tactics; the closest game that has anything like this is Robo Rally -- a board game.
SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Millenium
The last in a long list of great handheld head-to-head fighting games: Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny, King of Fighters R2, Fatal Fury First Contact, Samurai Showdown! 2... even (or especially) SNK Gals Fighters.
Some other titles:
Fantastic Night Dreams: Cotton -- Japanese shooter exclusive
RockMan Battle & Fighters -- Fun arcade port; can also be found in MM: Anniversary Collection
Evolution -- European English exclusive; a direct 2D port of its 3D DC brother.
Big Bang Pro Wrestling -- FPW-light; looks great and can be fun, but lack of CAW makes it shallow
Pocket Tennis -- Pong action is always fun in short bursts; a bit shallow
Puyo Pop, Puzzle Bobble Mini, Magical Drop Pocket -- Puzzlers ahoy!

Yeah, I did forget the Samurai Showdown games, my bad.
With Ogre Battle, is it actually playable? I'd imagine it'd be a pretty confusing game to play without English menus.

Wow, what a great list. Thanks guys. Language doesn't bother me, since I can speak/read/write japanese (I'm in Japan until August). I'll definitely go browsing around the used game shops in Akihabara. I would consider your copy of Falseti, Bradtemple, but the shipping would most definitely cost me an arm and a leg being shipped from America. I am mainly looking for a solid stock of games to get me through the train rides when I go backpacking in about a month since the rides will be at about 8 hours each :O. Since the NGPC is notorious for awesome battery life, I think it will be a good little companion.
My Console Collection: 3DS (JPNS), Dreamcast (US and JPNS), Genesis, N64 (US and JPNS), iPod Touch, NES, Xbox, Famicom, Colecovision, Super Famicom, Neo Geo AES, Sega Saturn, DS LL (JPNS), Neo Geo Pocket Color.

If you're able to speak Japanese, just get the Japanese version of Faselei. It can be had for around $5-10. I already sent Bradtemple some money for the English version of the game that he has.daito_kid wrote:Wow, what a great list. Thanks guys. Re: Neo Geo Pocket Color Acquired (Now about those games...)
I just posted about this game in the other NGPC thread, and it is really is "fantastic". It's got really colorful graphics, keeps the fun, personality & cute/spooky atmosphere of the other Cotton games, and it controls like a dream. The weapons power-up system is tough, in that it takes a while to get a super powerful shot, and you lose half of your power-up bar when you die (one hit), but it's quite satisfying/exciting to get it up to level 5 or 6 and have screen-clearing power! Also one thing I noticed in the NGPC version that apparently isn't true in the TG16 version (from reading an FAQ), your bomb power-ups stay even after you die or continue. This is a big help because they get pretty powerful pretty fast and enemies come at you from the bottom of the screen as often as they do from the side in Cotton. It's hard too, and even though I just got it yesterday I think it'll take me a while to get through it and I can't wait to go back to it again! Definitely recommend it. I don't know if I'd pay the $100 that's being asked on eBay right now, but if you can find it for under $50 it's a definite pick up... One of my favourite NGPC games so far!alienjesus wrote: * Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams

Re: Neo Geo Pocket Color Acquired (Now about those games...)
I got Faselei today for about $18 in it's box, near mint condition, in Akihabara. I'm going to start playing it tonight. They had Dive Alert in the used game shop for about $3, just the cart, and everything complete for about $7. I was thinking of picking that up as well. Good idea?
