Eden of the East got a resounding "meh" from me. They expanded it to two films, but overall it just felt they squandered a massive amount of potential. The first episode was great though.

I can vouch for most of the stuff Pulsar_t posted though. I'd add to it- Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Akagi, Kaiji, Bakemonogatari, Berserk, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Durarara!!, Eve no Jikan, Gankutsuou, Kaiba (anything by Yuasa really, including Kemonozume, Tatami Galaxy, and Mind Game), Kino's Journey, Kiddy Grade, Planetes, Princess Tutu (manliest anime ever. Don't hate), and Tekkon Kinkreet.

There are a number of different Macross series; Macross, Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross Zero and Macross Frontier (plus a few movies, more OVAs, etc.).

Watch Macross Zero or Plus. They are only 5 and 4 episodes respectfully, so it won't take too much time. They are amazing.

Wow, it's pretty impressive to see just how much stuff there is in this thread. I'll be using this as a reference anytime I feel like checking out some new anime

A tad bit of overload to me. I'll stick with some old classics if you don't mind.

Given how broad the subject is and how huge anime in general is, plus the high number of anime fans on this board, there's no way it couldn't be overload.

Classics is always good though.

You could have thrown in Outlanders as another 80's anime to watch, i enjoyed that.

Ive got the dvd set one of Votoms a buddy of mine found for me, and ive seen some of the TV series so far. I have seen the OVA's such as Palisen Files and the one 80's ova where they fight some giant sandcrawler (im dead serious, its like a mega sandcrawler).

I love GOLGO 13. When i get some spare cash ill get the collection 2 on dvd.

I enjoyed Venus Wars, and as Dave Riley from Fast Karate for the Gentalmen would call it "the dirt sandwich anime".

Ad Police Files is sweet, i got the dvd for cheap off animeigo site a while ago.

Battle Angel is sweet too, im gradually picking up the viz manga if i happen to catch them (ive only got 2, the first one and "angel of death")

Cyber City oedo is best described as an anime to introduce people to Kawajiri anime without wanting them to go into therapy (Wicked City anyone?) But that can be said about Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust or Highlander: The search for Vengence

Madox 01 is entertaining to watch for 45 some minutes, and goes to show how normal people act when theres a rampit robot running around.

Catch the end of this Fast Karate podcast for the great Madox song ever: http://hw.libsyn.com/p/9/2/d/92db5711c2 ... id=1690259

Warms my heart to see a couple of recs for Ranma 1/2. Though I must say, anybody who checks that out should strongly consider reading the manga. The anime has its moments (some really good, lots of bad) but the manga is fantastic.

A couple of my favorites you might consider...

Jing: King of Bandits
Kino's Journey
