I firmly disagree. NGB is just another Devil May Cry ripoff, although an extremely high quality one. Chrono Cross has got nothing on the impact of the original Chrono Trigger

game of the week sounds very interesting but i thing it should be biweekly or monthly. i would assume you would want your readers to play the game as a community and depending on the length game or just most peoples amount of spare time it should be at least every two weeks to allow people enough time to fully experience the game.

i really love this idea, especially as a gamer who has collected practically all consoles but has never experienced most of them during their initial release. i know of so many games but haven't found the time to play the impossible long list of well recommended games.

you should give advance notice of the games to allow people to acquire them (for those of us who feel the need to physically collect games not download them)

maybe you could create a "game of the (week/month) forum section.

I like the idea of a games discussion club, although we'll probably need more than a week for a game. I suppose it depends on what we're playing.

I always lament when I find an old game with multiplayer but have no one to play it with. I suppose this applies to PC games mostly. Usually I can find someone to play console games.

Maybe we could get our retro troops together and do some retro game reenactments. We'd probably be pretty terrible at them but it'd give us something to talk about and analyze. Some games do better with a big group like FPS, but I'm sure there are some that would be ideal for eight or less. I think I still have all my Hexen 2 server tools stored away for an occasion like this.

I've started blogging over at Destructoid and it seems hard to get people interested in your writing. I don't have any current gen systems or an up to date PC or Xbox Live so I can't do much actual gaming with those people. It could be fun to get together and game with the Racketboy crowd.

Count me in, too - I'd be up for discussion/participation in a game of the week/month club. We could maybe run two games at the same time - one better known and one that is a lesser-known gem. e.g. we could play Thunderforce 3 and Gaiares at the same time for a week, or Final Fantasy 7 and Alundra for a month...

I had this thought for awhile now, ever since I left college actually, but have never found a proper way to approach it. But going through the genres game by game might just work. I put about twenty minutes into this Friday afternoon and I brilliantly left it on my work computer. Ill post the list I came up with Monday or Tuesday depending on the workload. I did not choose all of the fan favorites though, I chose the defining games of the times. Ie Jumpbug and Jungle King.

Like many have said, once a month sounds about right. I can do a nice post on the blog to get more people involved.
And I think it might actually be cool to start with Pong and then Asteroids or something.
Like actually spend a good amount of time playing the originals. Have a Pong tournament with your friends or significant other. Share you high scores on Asteroids.
On older games like that, it might also be cool to have a brief list of modern remakes that are worth trying afterwards and see how they are better or worse than the originals.
