Re: Minecraft

If anyone is on a server and has any room, I have a buddy who managed to get himself banned from his server for sarcasm. Let me explain what happened.

Muffin (my friend): That skeleton shot me through two walls!
Admin: It's called beta.
Other dude: All of my arrows are missing!
Muffin: It's called beta.
Admin: BAN

So yeah, he was being emo about it last night, so if anyone wants to pick up a creative and knowledgeable 13 year old from Connecticut, I have one.

Also, he's known as Oracular on here after I've been trying to get him to join. Now I just gotta get him to post.

I was playing on Jeffro11's server the other night, decided to build something for the fun of it. This dude comes over and starts setting fire to it and me. Because, wait for it. I built too close to his shit. So I stole all his iron and diamond and ran away. Then he banned me.

That's the great things about Minecraft. Aside from being able to build some awesome shit, you also can walk away with some great stories.

I haven't played very much of the game, but I did sit down with it for a few hours recently and it is amazing how easy it is to get wrapped up into the game. It can be both peaceful and nerve-racking. It's like survival-horror with an emphasis on the survival.

For example, I have a little house built into the side of a mountain that I have been working on. I was working on my basement and was just totally engrossed in making the place look nice. I was carving out a long thin hallway when all of the sudden I just dropped down a shaft. I didn't have any torches to light the way, even though I had a bunch of other tools and materials on me. I didn't even know where I fell from. I was far down and couldn't see up to where I had been. The shaft kind of opened up at the bottom into some caverns. My character was injured and with some of the monsterous noises I could hear, I wasn't sure I would get out alive. Eventually, I was able to carve some make shift stairs that went up the sides of the shaft and found my way back to the sanctuary of my basement. Who'd have thought that remodeling the basement would have turned into a harrowing near death experience?

It's just little things like this that make Minecraft such an amazing game though. You can get really involved in your own little insular fortress, but then you suddenly crack open something and this whole other gigantic area of the world opens up... and it's often full of danger. Minecraft feels more vast than any game before it. I'm really loving this game right now.

Is this game really worth 15€? I played the classic one, and while it is mildly fun, it got boring quickly.

Did you play on survival mode or just the one where you can make stuff? I didn't play survival mode at first and I also kind of wondered what all the fuss was about, but after having to learn to defend myself from creepers, spiders, zombies, etc. I found that the game became a lot more fun. You get really invested in your own creations and having to defend them from creepers makes things suddenly intense. I hear playing on a server is also mounds of fun, but I'm having plenty of fun on my own and haven't tried that yet.

I think it's totally worth 15€ in other words.

Somebody made this really beautiful manual for Minecraft. If you're new to this game, you really do need a manual.

You can download the pdf here:

That friend of mine I mentioned decided to attempt to build a 1/10 scale model of Middle-Earth.

No sooner did he finish Frodo's house than the file was deleted by a dead laptop battery.

He did get some pics in though:

This is apparently a storage room for "hobbit golds".

It's more fun in multi, and even more fun when you're racing against time to avoid getting eaten alive by spiders and blown to hell by creepers.
