I figured that all the confusion and mistakes regarding geography and dates had spun this thread out into the hinterlands. My apologies if I offended.Breetai wrote:Not really the thread for that....dsheinem wrote:Q: Why do most people who work in the Egyptian tourism industry fail to make much money?

Let Israel worry about Israel. If any Israelis need a safe place to live, I'm sure they are welcome here. If they're so attached to that scrap of land, let them worry about defending it. The creation of Israel is the kind of colonial meddling that always causes problems (cf. pretty much all of Africa). It was a dumb idea then, and it's still a dumb idea now.YoshiEgg25 wrote:If we withdraw support for Israel, they're completely and utterly fucked.

I really doubt they would go towards a "true" democratic government. There's always someone moving the strings behind the curtain be it the US or someone else.Croooow! wrote:I think the U.S. has more to gain than to lose if Tunisia and Egypt overthrow their governments. More countries successfully transitioning to more democratic systems of government aids democracy's cause in Iran more than any sanctions, which often do hurt the people more than the government, ever could.Hatta wrote:The problem comes when the US "has a stake" in protecting a US friendly dictator at the expense of the people. The US has a history of not only protecting US friendly dictators, but even overthrowing democratically elected governments in order to install friendly dictators. We've been bitten by this enough times (e.g. Iran), that you'd think we'd have learned our lesson. The best thing the US can do is to stay the fuck out of it.
Thanks everyone...

They've made it for the last 60 years, and we didn't always help them. And Lebanon isn't in any condition to go to war right now either, from what I've heard.YoshiEgg25 wrote:Egypt? Add Palestine, Iran, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia (at the very least). Then tell me Israel has a fighting chance.BoringSupreez wrote:Well, I don't know about that. They have a better military than any of their neighbors, and their government's more stable. Egypt can't exactly conquer them in their present state.YoshiEgg25 wrote: If we withdraw support for Israel, they're completely and utterly fucked.
