Eh, I think the GameStop preorder ad killed that before the "Your Mom" commercials came around.brainofjtd wrote:J T wrote:I feel like these ads are a slap in the face to people who liked the original in favor of sucking the dicks of people who didn't play it because it wasn't "hardcore" enough

It all feels the same to me since I don't watch tv regularly. There was this certain amount of "classic horror movie" respect in the air with the original. They've shattered that illusion.

Well I certainly had more difficulty maintaining health packs on harder difficulties and such when compared to games like Gears of War that play very similarly, but are virtually stress-free when it comes to actually doing anything. I just felt like Dead Space took me back more to classic Survival than anything else recently, except maybe RE5 but RE5 punishes you only through physically limiting how many things you can carry, where as Dead Space makes demands of your performance in vacuums and unfamiliar territory.
I'm gonna stop being negative about DS2 because I am certainly going to get it. I just don't like the commercials.

I feel like you missed the point of why I made this topic.elmagicochrisg wrote:Chill guys. It's just a commercial. Doesn't mean the game is going to suck. The first one was a masterpiece, but it's just common sense that they added some new things now, like speech for Isaac. It will help the story develop. And in al honesty, that speech can only add to the realism, which is a good thing if you ask me. The end of DS 1 gave Isaac a face, remember?... With a face comes a voice. As long as it's a good voice, one that fits the mood. Jaleel White would kill it for instance... lol
Anyways, I just thought the commercial was funny, nothing more. Too bad people have to search so much behind it. It's just a friggin' commercial...![]()

He's not an American, nor does he reside in the US, so he doesn't necessarily understand the impact of this sort of thing over here.CFFJR wrote:I feel like you missed the point of why I made this topic.elmagicochrisg wrote:Chill guys. Understood. Thanks for the heads up. It certainly makes more sense. I fell into the "We" trap there without thinking about it. Sorry about that.Ack wrote:He's not an American, nor does he reside in the US, so he doesn't necessarily understand the impact of this sort of thing over here.
I'm not stuck up, nor a puritan, nor evenly remotely offended by the grand majority of, well, anything. I'm also not suggesting that the game would or should be banned. I don't even care about the game one way or another.elmagicochrisg wrote:There's stuck-up people and puritans everywhere. I just tend to ignore them. I don't see a game like Dead Space 2 getting banned because of some so-called controversy. I don't see why I (or any other gamer for that matter) should get all worked up over it. Relax, smoke something, play a game...
Anyways, do you really think people need a commercial to make a fuss over something?... Think again.
As for the fuss, in light of what Ack said, I understand why you might not get it. Simply put, I think you've misread my intentions here.
Take a look at this: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-20021417-38.html
See, I'm not offended by the commercial. However, the commercial can help the sort of "puritans" you're referring to feel justified in their mania. Its that sort of paranoia from people that leads to major court cases like the one described in that link, a situation that still hasn't had a definite conclusion.
Maybe it seems stupid to you. I understand that. I agree.
However, the fact remains that its become an issue where parents are not taking responsibility for the media their kids are buying, (some detractors have even made the ridiculous claim that video game companies are "out to get" their kids, foolishness that I was reminded of by the commercial) and some parties want the government to step in and do it for them, which can potentially lead to further entertainment control above and beyond video games. THAT'S what I have a problem with. These people should not be encouraged.
Yes, it is a goofy commercial. To most people. But there are plenty of diehards who might consider it evidence for their cause.
Chances are, you're right that nothing will come of this at all. The overall point is that its a button that shouldn't be pushed. If you disagree with me on that front, fine, but I hope you understand where I'm coming from here.
If you did understand me and knew all of this from the start and were being snarky, then I don't really know what else to say. I tend to get angry about this stuff because we shouldn't be having court cases about legislation of entertainment. Its beyond ridiculous, and there are more important issues for this country to consider. I'm sorry if you think I'm taking it too seriously, but that's the way it is.

Re: Anyone seen the Dead Space 2 "Your Mom" commercial?
It's a legitimate cause, I think. See the near-miss Californians had last year. There's a lot of legislation coming forward using the "damage" caused by video games. Probably the most since Mortal Kombat and Night Trap were the focal point.
Between the attitudes presented in advertising, the government's in-no-way-secret trawling of the shooter in Arizona's message board history, and moronic parents allowing MMOs and facebook games to facilitate child negligence, video games are a very volatile subject politically.
I agree and think a little discretion would do the industry a world of good.
