I was a fairly late adoptor of the Sega CD and the only units available new at the time was the SCD2. The SCD1 wasn't really on the shelves very long anyway, and was pretty expensive at the time, and as I recall it was quickly replaced with the SCD2 to coincide with the release of the Gen 2 which was issued not long after the initial launch of the Sega CD. In the SCD1 days the system really didn't have a lot of killer software so nothing compelled me to want one early on.

If I could find a complete, boxed SDC1 for a reasonable price I might buy it, but I'm not really looking because, well, I already have a Sega CD and I'm not really concerned about whether it's a 1 or 2. My Gen 1 is virgin and the one I've owned since it was new so I'm not going to hack it up. I can live without s-video, I have all these years thus far!
the genesis 2s are fairly common and stylistically the 32x and SegaCD 2 match the Genesis 2. but you have been using your setup for years, so just go with what works ;)
