#1. BIT.TRIP RUNNER
#2. F.E.A.R. !NEW!

My time spent with F.E.A.R. was certainly enjoyable, but I can't hail it as a masterpiece. Some reviews have gone so far as to declare it, "As thrilling and involving as Half-Life." Possibly as thrilling but definitely not as well-rounded imho. If I decide on going for a second playthrough, I'll be sure to choose the higher difficulty. The default difficulty is just too easy with abundant healthpacks in what seemed like every other room. Another minor gripe would be the repetitive enviroments.

Negatives aside, I'm still looking forward to the expansions and the sequel (Thank you Steam sale  )

Gamerforlife wrote:Yeah, I sort of forgot to mention that. I was trying to point out that cartoon games in general were awesome back then. I think it was Konami that was pretty good with the Warner stuff(like Animaniacs and The Adventures of Batman and Robin)while Capcom did more Disney stuff I think. Sega had a lot of awesome Disney stuff too though. In fact, they kind of outdid Capcom in that area I think. You look at a game like Capcom's Aladdin, which was awesome on the SNES, but the Genesis one by Sega and Virgin Interactive made more of an impression

I miss the 16-bit era :(

Need to buy more Gameboy Advance games to play on my DS :D
Well hey, I totally agree with you.

16-bit was the best of the best. Long live Genesis!

Well, I finished Lara Croft and the Guadian of Light in single player on the PS3. Great game overall but it kind of falls apart in the last few levels where whoever designed the game goes into full on douchebag mode. The last boss is one of the most annoying boss battles I've ever had the misfortune of playing. They basically swarm you with enemies, while the boss attacks you with annoying attacks and, oh yeah, don't forget the one hit kill spikes that keep randomly popping out of the floor

On top of that, there's like fifty thousand phases to the battle. Is he dead yet? No. Is he dead yet? No. Is he dead yet? No. GODDAMNIT!!! The last boss fight is a big clusterfuck, a total mess, and an awful way to close out the game

There was also an annoying area near the end of the game where you have to move a ball through a maze while fighting a bunch of annoying enemies that keep respawning and also dealing with exploding rocks that keep randomly falling out of the sky. Like a lot of games, the designers clearly went overboard in trying to make the game challenging towards the end, the mark of amateurish design.

Aside from the crap last level or two and one of the shittiest end bosse battles I've ever seen, most of the game is great. The puzzles are not too hard, but not so easy you feel insulted, the platforming is solid and combat is the best combat in the entire history of the franchise. This is the ONLY Lara Croft game in history where fighting enemies is actually kind of fun. There are lots of cool optional challenges in the game and hidden items to find for replay value. The equipment system is fairly good as the items can boost your stats or make your bombs more useful(by widening the area of effect or increasing their damage)and there are lots of fun weapons to use and the game has a cool power up system where after you kill a certain number of enemies your weapons gain a power based on what items you have equipped, but you lose it if you take damage. This game really has an old school, arcade like feel to it where you're actually encouraged to dodge enemies and attacks and actually NOT take damage, unlike other Tomb Raider games where taking damage is pretty much a given

I'd probably give the game an 8 out of 10 overall. It's certainly more original and inspired than Tomb Raider: Underworld was. Not that Underworld was bad, but it didn't do much to differentiate itself from both Tomb Raider Legend AND Tomb Raider Anniversary

Games Beaten 2011

1. Karateka – Atari 7800
2. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest – SNES
3. Alien Crush – TG16
4. Altered Beast – GEN *NEW*

I've wanted to beat Altered Beast for a long time, and I finally did. The last boss always gave me trouble because I had difficulty with the high jump in that game since the first time I played it. It's a pretty short but fun game and has the same overall feel as the arcade version. When you beat it, the game starts over in the first level with more enemies so I might give the second play-through a chance since the games not particularly difficult.

Games Finished 2011
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops - 360
    Sonic and Knuckles - XBLA
    K.O.L.M. - PC
Protect Me Knight aka Mamotte Knight - XBLA
Space Invaders Extreme 2 - DS
SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium - NGPC
Breath of Death VII - XNA *new*
Arkedo Series 01 - Jump! - XNA *new*
Arkedo Series 02 - Swap! - XNA *new*
Arkedo Series 03 - Pixel! XNA *new*
Total: 10

Strike another one off the list! Breath of Death VII was a fun RPG that I played on the 360 via XNA. It plays a lot like Dragon Quest, and has a great sense of humor. It didn't take long to finish, maybe ten hours at the most, but it was very entertaining while it lasted. The NES inspired graphics created the perfect atmosphere for the game.

The Arkedo Series of games are probably some of the most polished titles available through XNA. Jump! is a platformer in which you must collect a certain amount of time bombs before they go off to proceed to the next level. It gets very challenging towards the end, and has no continues, so trying to collect and conserve 1ups becomes paramount to beating the game.

I had a lot of trouble beating Swap!, as its a puzzle game where you have to match four colored squares that climb from the bottom of the screen... and I'm colorblind. You have to keep eliminating blocks before they can reach the top of the screen, or else you get a game over. Luckily, I had my girlfriend here to help me whenever I got stuck. My only real problem was differentiating between the yellow and green blocks!

Pixel! is probably my favorite game of the bunch. It's a challenging platformer where you play as a cat who has to traverse the world in search of his friends. The graphics are really quite beautiful, and the gameplay is spot on. You have unlimited lives, and there are checkpoints throughout the game's levels, but it is still a challenge to get through.

"The List" or "Games I intend on beating before the years end!"

X-Men Arcade (XBLA)- ran through with Colossus on one-player, then did a 3-player run as Cyclops. Used way too many continues, but we won.

Guess I'm not using the right format for this so far, my bad. Here we go:

Games Beaten: 2011

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin - Nintendo DS
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light - PS 3

Total: 2

Not bad so far, as I liked both of these games(though I hated Guardian of Light's final boss fight).

1. Karateka – Atari 7800
2. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest – SNES
3. Alien Crush – TG16

5. Harmful Park – PS1 *NEW*

Holy hell in a hand basket Harmful Park is pure greatness. I am so thrilled I was able to find a way to play it the way it was meant to be played. The game is truly fantastic. Once I started playing, I didn't stop until the credits rolled. If you don't know about the game look no further than this very site for some great quick info:

Just a few minutes ago, I finally completed The Adventures of Bayou Billy for the NES. Playing the game itself is an ordeal. It's not like it's glitched or buggy, but it's REALLY hard. After memorizing practically every level over the past week or two, I finally beat it tonight, mostly thanks to some advice on how to make it a little easier from a fellow forum member. I think my Title of "Captain N" is in full effect now, but damn, I am NEVER doing that again. :P

Games beat so far: 6
