Re: i just got into the metroid games
A friend of mine keeps saying that metroid was the first game that actually allowed you to save your game. (Even in a primitive sense with the passwords) Is this true. Is this true?
I can't recall which game came out first, Metroid or Final Fantasy?

Re: i just got into the metroid games
This is most certainly not the case. There are plenty of games that came before Metroid which allowed you to save your game, at least for other platforms. E.G. King's Quest and a ton of other computer adventure games in the early eighties.PixelPixii wrote:A friend of mine keeps saying that metroid was the first game that actually allowed you to save your game. On the Japanese side of things, The Legend of Zelda was released for the FDS before Metroid was, though Metroid was released a week or so before Zelda in the United States. So I guess it's possible it was the first U.S. NES release to offer a method to save the game, but I'm not certain of it.
Systems: TI-99/4a, Commodore Vic-20, Atari 2600, NES, SMS, GB, Neo Geo MVS (Big Red 4-slot), Genesis, SNES, 3DO, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GBA, GCN, NDSi, Wii

Metroid was originally an FDS release with a save screen virtually identical to Zelda's. But Zelda came out about 6 months earlier.

Thanks guys. I was pretty sure that Metroid was not really the first, but he did not believe me.

i am currently "rocking that beast out" ... damn good times. I tried it a couple months ago and got thwarted by the inventory system and Kraid. With some considerable button remapping to make it more reminiscent of my initial Metroid experiences (Zero Mission & Fusion) I'm getting a better grip on things. rockin it...optmusprimenumber wrote:i'm definitely planning to get Super Metroid on the vc and rock that beast out.
edit: why isn't shinesparking working like normal? i run until the speed booster kicks in, then i hold down, and nothing happens... she just stops flashing... wtf?
edit: got it! it wont work if i'm holding down the dash button... aaahahhhaha

Re: i just got into the metroid games
i think it's funny how things explode... like there's dynamite strapped all over them and they're going off in series... it makes sense for the research station or anything mechanical really... but all the creatures that explode like that, it's just funny
