Probably Super Mario Bros. at my neighbors house. The first game I had for the Sega was Sonic 1, so that is another choice.

My brother had that game when I was younger and it sticks out in my mind as being both a considerably different and considerably fun Mario game. I should keep my eyes out for it, for the replay nostalgia at the very least.

Nice choice, I got a mint complete original version on ebay recently dirt cheap

Re: First game you ever beat
I believe it was Super Mario 64. I had an older brother that got me into gaming and now I'm thankful for that!

Huh.
Well, this is something of a conundrum. I believe Double Dragon was one of the first games I had ever beaten, but that was because I was riding the coat-tails of more experienced players. (Never beat Rolling Thunder, Time Soldier, Renegade, Ninja Gaiden, TMNT, the Avengers, Dynamite Duke, Tecmo Knight... hoy, those are a lot of arcade games.)
Home-consoles... Contra was probably the first, though again, that was because the owner of the game was leading the charge. Ditto with games like Metroid, Zillion, Legend of Zelda; especially Zelda where the entire neighborhood (okay, so it turned out to be 4~6 of us) worked together to beat both quests.
I suppose the first game I personally owned that I beat on my own was Mega Man 3. Or was it that Dragon Warrior 1-day rental? It took me years to conquer SMB and Zelda II (4 and 6 respectively). Took me 10 to finish my original save from Final Fantasy. (Due to my ineptitude with armor management.)

My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

Mine was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time. When I was younger I must have played it weekly. I could always beat it on my own on easy and normal but, because I wanted to see the ending with them sitting on the Turtle Blimp, I often demanded the help of my older brother or mom to beat hard mode.

Stellar Track 2600
There were probably other earlier ones but I'm positive I completed the galaxy map in this one.

Depending on how you consider Pokemon beat, probably either REd or Yellow.

Vanguard for Atari 2600. I loved that game. It's real easy, but I was so happy when I finally blasted the robot's brains.

I'm really not sure, but I have a feeling it was one of either Golden Axe or Streets of Rage for the sega mega drive.
