This is something to look for when buying a PSP, confirming what firmware is in it. I recently purchased Action Replay but returned it. Turns out the firmware has to be 6.20 or older. Code junkies is working on an upgrade but a never ending battle of firmware updates kills either Homebrew/Action Replay or online use of the PSP.avrame wrote:Most current firmware is 6.35, but no games enforce you to update. Only way to be forced to update is by attempting to access the PSN. The Homebrew Enablers (HEN for short) currently support up to 6.31 (what I have), and have promised to distribute a update to support 6.35 before XMas.AmishSamurai wrote: What's the most current firmware, and are there any downgrades out there to put it to the most current hackable firmware?
At the moment, I buy my PSP games on my PS3, then transfer it to my PSP. This allows me to keep my HEN enabled 6.31, and still legally buy PSP games from the PSN.

Wow did not know that. Never heard of an update killing someones saleable product, thats just mean
Anywho, as I stated before, 6.31 currently allows homebrew, with the latest firmware (6.35) allowing homebrew come Xmas. From the sound of it, someone is working on an ISO loader for the 6.35 kernel exploit, but that doesn't really interest me as I buy all my games.

Oh, no no no. I knew about that issue with custom firmware in the past, but I meant having the NEWEST firmware makes a game unplayable. For those two links you sent, thats more around the lines of attempting to play games that require newer firmware on an older system. Aside from action replay, I haven't heard of a case where upgrading the PSP will cause a legal game to stop playing.
In terms of other consoles though... Upgrading to a 360 or PS3 kills BC, and Upgrading to Win7 kills all XP only games

Wow, the PSPgofuckyourself was finally hacked to run emulators? I may consider buying one then. Of course I would never use it for playing PSP games on. I have a 3000 model for that.avrame wrote:Strictly my two cents:
Go with a PSPgo. I originally bought one thinking it was unmoddable, but my god, they've come a long way in the modding community. With the PSPgo, you can easily launch homebrew now, and with the added benefit of TV out and bluetooth, it's a definite win for me.
I currently have a Genesis and GBA emulator running on my PSPgo, hooked to my 46" tv, and playing on it with a Dualshock 3. Hard to say that I don't regret buying it now
wololo.net <- This is where you can get info on what models/firmwares you can run certain exploits with to enable homebrew/emulators

So from reading everyone's comments in this thread, the general consensus is that PSP-2000 >>>> PSP-3000?
Re: What is the Best PSP Model for Emulation/Homebrew
Do the 100x models overclock to 333MHz? That's important because every MegaHertz does count for emulation!
The most disappointing thing about the PSP is that it can't run SNES games full-speed. I was shocked to find that Shadowrun doesn't run that well on PSP (at least using the latest UO Snes9x), and like the DS the conversation portraits are all messed up.
The PSP-300x is a solid series. My only gripe would be the interlacing artefacts on the screen but they don't bother me. I never could figure out why they made the shell so prone to scratches either (applies to all models)

I've got a 1000 and a 3000, and I'm in the process of hacking with a Pandora's Battery.Imperfect Dark wrote:So from reading everyone's comments in this thread, the general consensus is that PSP-2000 >>>> PSP-3000?
My plan was originally to hack my 3000, (since it's got video-out,) and keep my 1000 pure for retail games.
So far, I'm reading that the 3000 is unhackable with a Pandora's Battery - That's why the general consensus is that a 2000 > 3000, I believe.
Can anyone tell me if there's a way to hack a 3000 with a battery, (I'm not going the ChickHEN route for obvious reasons..)
Re: What is the Best PSP Model for Emulation/Homebrew
If you don't mind me asking, why not? They just released a new HEN called TN HEN, and it does everything that you can do with CFW. Only requirement is that you need a firmware of 6.20 or less:Rurouni_Fencer wrote:(I'm not going the ChickHEN route for obvious reasons..)

Also, HBL (HomeBrew Loader) worked great on all PSP model, give that a try if you aren't interested in ISOs and stuffs
