2011 Gaming and Collecting Goals

I didn't say the thread was about goals or numbers - I said it helped me with setting game playing goals. It's actually the lack of competitiveness and the celebration/discussion of beaten games that I enjoy about that thread!

Yeah, my favorite part of the thread is the discussions about the game we've beaten (speaking of, I wonder how many games we completed as a community; it's got to be close to 1K). When JT made the "bows down" comment about me beating Top Gun, I kinda felt a tad bit more proud.

So far my goal would be to complete my game room in my new place. I'm moving this Saturday, so if anyone has any ideas, look at my Game Room post as I could use all the help I can get.

my collection plan for 2011 is as follows:

complete my US saturn want list (35 more games to go)
double my current JP saturn collection (75 to 150)
expand my GB collection
expand my SNES collection (mainly with shmups and racers)
make custom slimline dvd art for the loose games i have

my gaming plan for 2011 is as follows:

beat at least 15 games that i own
beat at least 25 games for the year
purchase fewer new titles and more older titles that i really want to play

I plan to expand my collection overall, manly snes though since it's my favorite. I also might buy a wii or ds after Christmas so I would get games for those too. I have about 10 games I want to beat next year, if I can't get them in this year.

I was looking back on this thread to see if anyone else added anything, and noticed that you don't have a list of the games you still need up linked on your BST list. I'm sure many of us would be happy to help you out - 35 is not very many!

Oh, and actually have the Retro Together, or whatever its called, guys pick something I own so that I can take part.

The 2011 list is up -how'd it turn out for you? We did have open discussion about possible titles, but part of the point of TR is to pick things that people might not have but can easily/cheaply get access to..

Also, in the time since the first post, I have decided that I want to beat fewer games next year then I did this year.

Wow - i'd like to say game more, collect less - but I have a hard time doing that. I am very into aesthetics, similarities, even numbers - all that. Every time I think i'm set for awhile I notice i'm 7 short of this or I now have 2 of this somehow and end up consumed by having to finish another collection.

So I guess I have each, gaming and collecting.

I really had a lot of fun with the Games Completed - 2010 thread as well. Although I have completed an astronomical amount of games this year, I don't want anyone to think I was using the thread as a means of bragging about it. I just like being able to look back at what I've played throughout the year. Plus, the thread pushes me to actually want to complete games that have been sitting in my collection or on my PC for a while.

My goals for next year will most likely have a lot to do with the 2011 version of the Games Completed thread. I want to play through the Final Fantasies, the main series Mario titles, and the Panzer Dragoon series. I also want to try to finally complete Braid and Portal this year.

As far as collecting goes, I want to try and thin out my collection a bit, getting rid of stuff I have no interest in playing. There are only a few titles that I plan on getting in the coming year, such as Knuckles Chaotix and a few Turbografx-16 CD titles.
