Post by terrybogard »

Whats up guys... i got this today from a friend for free... I dont know much about this system at all to be honest... Basically if this was yours what would you do to get it working 100%

All i know is what you see.... I have no games to test cart slots... and its missing the floppy drive entirely..... please give me suggestions and links to buy the parts needed and information that would help me on my learning journey... thanks in advance

I dont even know how to operate this fossil... I do have computer and console repair skills though...

Nice system, if it was working. Unfortunately all I know is that the cartridge game goes in the cartridge slot and it plays. Konami released quite a lot of games for the system, including editions of Castlevania, Metal Gear, Gradius/Nemesis, Parodius, etc.

Whoa, was the floppy drive shattered or did you take it apart?

Also, is it not IDE on the floppy interface?

Oh, and get Snatcher & Metal Gear!

That's a standard power cable like a PC floppy drive uses, but PC floppy drives are 34 pin, not 24.

You're sure you counted correctly? If it really is 24 I guess you'll have to hope for a floppy part from Japan or someone on the forum maybe. I haven't messed with any MSX machines myself. Though aren't most games cart anyway?

I can't think of ANY games (at least Japanese ones) that need the floppy drive. Then again, I'm not an MSX expert and have only gone through a couple MSX systems in my life. I'd say you don't need it. :)

Unfortunately, I sold all my extra MSX games a few months ago. I think risingstuff usually has a few MSX games. Maybe order a couple, along with some PCE stuff 8) , and see if they work? It's not like you'd be losing out much if you get some PCE stuff along with a couple MSX games! They should just load automatically if you power the system on with a cart plugged in, if I remember correctly. No "Load, 8, 1" nonsense!

It does appear to power on and display the main screen on the TV, so that's a good sign.

Looks like the rarer MSX is working, just not the floppy. Great to play around Basic Language programming with RUN, IF A=128 THEN and GOTO statements. Nothing fancy just a hobby kill time simple programs. Unfortunately no way to save without getting that floppy head and spindle put back together. The old belt may be loose, careful you don't stretch it. In the interim you could get game carts for your computer console hybrid.

You could Google MSX Basic to find all the various commands.
